Note: The Jets went into Vancouver last night against the best team in the NHL, scored two power play goals and left B.C. with two points in their standings bank courtesy of a 4-2 win that saw numerous players play big roles in the victory. It was quite the statement win by Winnipeg which runs their win streak to three games. They are in Calgary today where they are scheduled to practice this afternoon as they prepare for an afternoon contest against the Flames tomorrow. Jets are now off today.
Note II: The Moose did not fair as well as their parent club as they started strong against the Admirals but there is a good reason that Milwaukee is undefeated in 2024. They took advantage of a mistake in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead which is where things stood for 40 minutes and then ripped off three straight in the 3rd to win it 4-0. Manitoba were gonna practice this AM but they are taking the day to stay off the ice. They conclude this two-game set with a re-match against the Admirals on Monday.
Note III: Saturday was a big day for a former Jets prospect as Declan Chisholm, playing his first game for the Wild after being claimed earlier this month, scored his first NHL goal. Lots of emotions from the 2018 5th rounder after the game.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Scheifele’s four-point night lifts Jets past league-best Canucks. I think Vancouver thought that by playing Scheifele physically it would throw him off his game. Zadarov went for a big hit on 55 in the 1st and obviously there was the JT Miller play which was somehow called embellishment but seemed like it had the opposite effect on the Jets top centre who had one hell of a good game.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets knock off league-leading Canucks. (Paywall). Mike was inside Rogers Arena and gives you his thoughts on the game.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets Stanley Cup contender checklist: How do they stack up in 2024? (Paywall). Do these Jets have what it takes to contend? Murat checks the list.
Vancouver Sun: Losing your way in crunch time. If you’d like insight into the Jets opponent give this a read.
Sportsnet: Pinning Canucks’ loss on referees discredits more-composed Jets. Had to read that headline twice to determine if it was satire. Another game assessment from someone who covers the Jets opponent.
Jets video:
TSN: In a chippy affair, Jets managed physicality better than Canucks. After the Jets reeled off a huge win on the road against the league-best Canucks, Frankie Corrado joined SportsCentre to discuss how they were able to take down Vancouver, and explain why he would pick Connor Hellebuyck over Thatcher Demko for the top goalie honours this season.
OHL: Jets prospect Colby Barlow went on a goal scoring tear. The Ontario Hockey League put out this video on the 13th of Jets 2023 first rounder Colby Barlow scoring 18 goals in 19 games (he got two goals that night so had they put it out the next day it would have been 20 in 20). If you wanna see how he’s doing on this tear check out this video.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday Podcast. On yesterday’s show we spoke about the Jets offensive drought, the choice to not reunite Ehlers, Scheifele and Vilardi, trade targets for Winnipeg three weeks to deadline, Ville Heinola as an “internal add” for the team and if this team need an add at forward/on defence/both? We were joined by Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun and International Influencer Chuck Hellebuyck (and father of Jets goalie Connor Hellebuck).
