Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets had their final off day on Saturday for the All-Star break and most of the team (potentially with exception of three in Toronto for All-Star festivities) will be back in Winnipeg today. They are scheduled to practice this afternoon at 2 PM CST, including newly acquired centre Sean Monahan sometime after 2 PM. We will have it covered in the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose concluded their five-game road trip last night in Rockford as they won their fourth game of the five they played this road trip to push them back into the playoff race (sitting just four back of the Wolves). In a somewhat odd quirk the same two goal scorers in quick succession on Friday night were the same two goal scorers in quick succession on Saturday with Nicholas Jones tying (see here) the game and then Kristian Reichel giving (see here) the visitors a 2-1 lead. After the home team tied the game Manitoba won it with a Jeff Malott ripper (see here) in overtime.  Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic is now 4-2-0 with a .905 save % and & a 2.55 GAA. He picked up three of the four wins they got during the trip. The Moose are now on break for the AHL All-Star festivities which get underway tonight in San Jose. With the exception of Brad Lambert and Kyle Capobianco who are heading to California, the rest of the team will have the next few days off.

Note III: We received plenty of nice messages from folks during yesterday’s live broadcast of the 15th Anniversary of the Illegal Curve Hockey Show in the comments section and on our various social media accounts. We also received plenty of nice messages from our fellow media members and others. If you missed those you can watch them here.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Sean Monahan has 2 distinct Jets predecessors: How will he pan out? (Paywall).  They’ll be hoping they see more Paul Stastny over Kevin Hayes.

WST: Reaction to the Winnipeg Jets acquiring Sean Monahan with Murat Ates. Andrew “Hustler” Paterson was joined by Murat Ates of The Athletic for full reaction on the Winnipeg Jets acquiring Sean Monahan from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a 1st round pick in 2024 and a conditional 3rd round pick in 2027.
