Note: The Jets practiced on Friday as they got set for this one-game homestand against the Leafs. We learned from head coach Rick Bowness that Mark Scheifele will not play tonight but that Gabriel Vilardi and Josh Morrissey are likely but remain game-time decisions. Morning skate won’t likely tell us much since it is an optional but it does get underway at 9:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.
Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Toronto we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.
Note III: The Moose travelled yesterday to Rockford where they will begin a nine-game road trip (which will be cut in half, roughly, by the AHL All-Star game). While the playoffs seem unlikely the fact is this team is only half done the season. There are still plenty of games left to try to get into the race and if they are going to do it, it will be during this stretch where they face divisional opponents. First up will be the IceHogs this evening. Puck drop at 7 PM CST.
Note IV: How about you join us this morning for two hours of Winnipeg Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM sharp. We will be joined by Christian Aumell of CJOB 680 and former NHLer turned analyst Jeff O’Neill of TSN 1050.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Heart on his sleeve, winning on his mind: Jets’ Bowness has done the unthinkable. Guess he’s showing there is no I in team with his focus on team success.
Winnipeg Sun: Morrissey, Vilardi likely to play, but Scheifele set to miss sixth straight game. While the band isn’t quite all back together this is a pretty, pretty, pretty close representation. In fact when practice began on Friday it looked like it would be a full lineup (including David Gustafsson, AJF and Dominic Toninato in light blue healthy scratch jerseys) until Mark Scheifele sat out the power play drills.
Winnipeg Free Press: Josh Morrissey dodges bullet, back on the blue line. (Paywall). While the Jets have sustained losses to the forward group they can ill afford to lose 44 on the backend so they got very good news when he was on the ice for practice on Friday.
