Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets practiced on Friday as they prepared for their home and home, back-to-back set of games against the Wild which starts this afternoon in Winnipeg. No morning skate today with it being a matinee. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 1 PM CST.

Note II: This afternoon, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Minnesota, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose played last night as they welcomed division leading Texas to town where they unfortunately continued a theme of losing the first game of a two-game set (2-10) as the Stars took advantage of their miscues to win it 6-2 last night. However the good news for Manitoba is they are very good in the re-match this season going 9-2. Today they will practice at 11 AM CST.

Note IV: How about you join us (myself and Jim Toth from 680 CJOB) this morning for two hours of Winnipeg Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM sharp. We will be joined by Wyatt Bongiovanni of the Manitoba Moose and Andrew ‘Hustlerama’ Paterson of Winnipeg Sports Talk.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets know what needs to improve on struggling power play. They spent time on Friday working away at it in practice as they try to fix the one area (special teams) that has held this team back and cost them points in the standings.

Winnipeg Free Press: Intense weekend on tap as Jets, Wild renew rivalry. (Paywall). While this rivalry was originally born out of geography, the playoff series back in 2017 is what really created a disdain between the teams and fanbases. Friendly Manitoba vs Minnesota Nice these two are not.

Winnipeg Free Press: Marc-Andre Fleury last of a dying breed. (Paywall). That statement holds true on and off the ice.

The Athletic: NHL trade matchmaker: LeBrun and Johnston on where 6 top targets go by the deadline. (Paywall). Chris Johnston mentions Winnipeg as a potential landing spot for the Habs Sean Monahan which is something Ezzy Ginsburg of the Illegal Curve Hockey Show has been saying for a few years now.

Global News: Great hockey to be played between Jets and Wild. John wrote about how big this weekend is going to be for the two Central division rivals as they push to add to their respective standings bank at the expense of their opponent.
