Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets got off to an inauspicious start last night in the final stop on their four-game road trip when the Kings began with a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. However the top line took over that game scoring all five goals in the comeback victory over Los Angeles. Gabriel Vilardi had four points in his first game in L.A. as a visitor (his first ever four point game) as Winnipeg picks up six of eight points during this stretch away from Manitoba. With the win they leapfrogged the idle Stars into 2nd and remain two points back of the Avs who also won yesterday. The team will travel home today so there is no media.

Note II: The Moose practiced again on Wednesday using it as a skills day. The four players went to Camp Manitou to participate in a Community Practice series. They have another day of practice this morning at hockey for all centre as they prepare for a two-game set with the Admirals which starts tomorrow night.

Note III: Yesterday afternoon Sara Orlesky of the Jets confirmed the timeline Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press has said regarding the projected recovery timetable being 6-8 weeks for winger Kyle Connor.

Note IVVille Heinola and Rasmus Kupari were skating and taking light contact on Wednesday morning as they work their way back from injury

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Gabriel Vilardi revenge tour could only be getting started . A goal and a four point night in your first ever game at your former home arena against a team that was willing to part ways with your services is probably some pretty, pretty, pretty tasty revenge. And as Scott writes it could be a catalyst to a whole lot more for number 13.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets family of coaches rallied around each other during Bowness’s absence. (Paywall). An interesting read from Mike on the way the coaches on the Jets staff handled things when head coach Rick Bowness took his leave of absence to be with his wife Judy.

Global News: Top line carries load for Winnipeg Jets in 5-2 win in LA. They were dominate in that win.

Los Angeles Daily News: Gabe Vilardi leads Jets past Kings in impressive return to L.A.. A good read from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Jets video:

TSN That’s Hockey: Can the Jets withstand the loss of Connor and his offenceIt’s stating the obvious but the Jets losing their top goal scorer is a massive blow and with the team ranked in the middle of the pack in goals per game in the NHL, being without your only scorer in double digits is going to be tough to replace. Can the Jets withstand this loss? TSN Hockey analyst Mike Johnson weighs in.

Moose news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets prospect Brad Lambert blazing past competition with Moose. This headline was quite literal last weekend in Calgary as the Jets other first rounder from 2022 seems to be heating up in the AHL.
