Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets practiced on Saturday in Anaheim as they got ready to resume their schedule with three games in the next four days. The most notable news was that Rick Bowness is “very hopeful” that Vlad Namestnikov plays after missing the last three games. While Winnipeg didn’t play the rest of the Central was in action and it went exactly how they would have wanted. With it being a gameday normally all eyes would be on morning skate but since it’s an early puck drop in California no skate this morning. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Anaheim, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose are coming off a tough loss on Friday which saw the Wranglers defeat them 6-2 and put a stop to their three-game winning streak. They will wrap up their quick two-game set out west with an afternoon re-match. Puck drop at 2 PM CST.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Bowness focuses on defence ahead of Ducks test. Should be a good opportunity as Scott points out to get those numbers up the next couple of games.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets go back to their roots to prep for Ducks. (Paywall). Mike gives you an update from southern California.

Orange County Register: Ducks short-handed in terms of players and scoring. With all those injuries to the Ducks I thought we might see former Jets prospect Chase De Leo (2014 4th) who is part of the Anaheim organization. However De Leo is only recently back from a substantial injury (MCL sprain) and is in the AHL with their AHL affiliate Gulls. Good article to gain insight into the Jets opponent.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday Podcast. On yesterday’s show we discussed: Are the Jets an elite team in the NHL? Starting the road trip with a win in Colorado. Previewing the Jets upcoming games in California. How Winnipeg may use Connor Hellebuyck/Laurent Brossoit during next three games. Which player is a priority to sign – Dylan DeMelo or Brenden Dillon? Jets being tied for best team in terms of 5 on 5 goals against. Situation with Nate Schmidt. Salary cap increasing. We were joined by Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet and Craig Button of TSN.
