Note: The Jets were off on Friday after they earned themselves an off day (which was already scheduled) following a 4-2 win over the Avalanche to start the four-game road trip off on the right skate.
Note II: The Moose had a good opening period last night in Calgary but big middle (3 goals) and final (3 goals) frames for the Wranglers propelled the home team to a 6-2 win over the visitors. Manitoba’s three-game win streak comes to an end as they fall back below .500 with a 9-10-0 record. They did get goals by Jets prospects Danny Zhilkin (see here) and Brad Lambert (see here) while Tyrel Bauer had a fight (here) and some big hits (here & here).
Note III: How about you join us this morning for two hours of Winnipeg Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM sharp. We will be joined by Sean Reynolds of Sportsnet and Craig Button of TSN.
Note IV: Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed the shifting D landscape in the NHL on yesterday’s 32 Thoughts Podcast which included some Jets talk.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: From skid to streak: Jets handle first dose of adversity. Lots of folks were saying “here they go again” during that three-game losing streak but the Jets put that to bed with a three-game win streak. Every team in the NHL has to deal with adversity.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets let their play do the talking when it comes to proving they are among NHL’s elite. (Paywall). While they still have some big boys to best (Vegas/Dallas) the win against Colorado was good for the psyche.
Winnipeg Free Press: Nothing but praise for Nino. (Paywall). Feels like the scene in Seinfeld when Jerry’s mom is aghast at the thought that someone might not like her son “How could anyone not like you?” she asks. Nino Niederreiter is in that same category where he is just universally well liked.
Global News: Plan comes together in Jets’ mile-high win against Colorado. We do call these measuring stick games for a reason and I agree with John. Rolling the four lines definitely seemed like a winning strategy given how fast that game was played.
