Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets held an optional practice on Tuesday which was still fairly well attended. We did learn that Ville Heinola skated for the first time since his ankle surgery although he remains “aways away”. Today they have another day of practice scheduled for 10:15 AM CST at the hockey for all centre after which they’ll board a flight to Colorado to start a four-game road trip. With the Jets heading out of town for four games and only sitting with 12 forwards it seems likely for them to make a recall. Check back for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose held a full team practice yesterday following a day off on Monday. We got some insight into the injury that is bothering Kyle Capobianco although it hasn’t precluded him from producing as he currently sits second on Manitoba in scoring. They have another day of practice scheduled for this morning at 10 AM CST.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets blue line awfully crowded. (Paywall). And it’s only going to become even more so when Ville Heinola joins the ranks of healthy Dmen and then they’ll have to make a move of some sort. Of course he will be with Moose once he’s ready to return which will allow them to punt that specific problem down the road. In the meantime they still have the issue of Nate Schmidt, Logan Stanley and Declan Chisholm all vying for one spot.

Global News: 2 Manitobans, Winnipeg Jets prospect invited to junior team selection camp. It’s been a tough season for the reigning OHL goalie of the year who dealt with injury and has gone from a 2.33 GAA last season to a 3.75 currently and a .919 save % in 2022-23 to .876%.

Jets video:

TSN: Jets pleased with early progress of defenceman Declan Chisholm. In Monday’s win against the Hurricanes, the Jets used seven defencemen, including dressing both Logan Stanley and Declan Chisholm. Head coach Rick Bowness says that while it has been brief, he has been pleased with Chisholm’s two games this season, and can see him being used more should he continue to progress.
