Note: As September rolls around and all this week we wanted to bring to your attention the Pass it Forward program which provides help to youth in Winnipeg who wish to play hockey but require aid in getting the necessary equipment. The program is in it’s 4th year, they have a brand new website, an active twitter feed @PassItForwardca, and they are giving away a team-signed picture of last season’s opening faceoff. Be sure to check it out.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets plan for fans to miss games. Many fans were wondering “when will I be receiving my tickets” so it is good that the Jets are planning on notifying their season ticket holders in the near future.
Winnipeg Free Press: Checking out their options. As we get closer and closer to September 15th, we will be hearing more and more about Jets players plans to play elsewhere as a lockout looms.
EB Sports: NHL 13 Launch Events. Here is your chance to meet Evander Kane as he will be at the EB Games on Regent on Tuesday, September 11th.
TSN: Expiry of CBA significant for group of young RFAs. Speaking of Evander Kane, here is a good read from Bob McKenzie on what could happen to current RFAs.
CBA news:
ESPN: Players more unified than ever. Paul Kelly, formerly the executive director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association, gives his thoughts on the state of the players.
USA Today: NHLPA gives players lockout preparation memo. The PA sending this memo on how to handle a lockout, while prudent planning, is another sign which does not bode well for labour peace.
Los Angeles Times: Bill Daly questions players’ urgency in labor talks. The dialogue has continued but again, as has been stated here previously, there is no appearance of urgency on either side.
The Hockey News: Bring sanity to CBA outrage. Bottom line, be skeptical of everything you read. (Unless it is on Illegalcurve.com of course).
NHL news:
Edmonton Journal: John Graham convinced Saskatoon is ready for the NHL. Perhaps we will get a chance to see Saskatoon and its suitability for NHL hockey if the pre-season game between the Jets and Bruins set for Saturday, September 29th goes off as scheduled.
Montreal Gazette: Quebec City’s NHL hopes take a hit. Until a deal is signed in Phoenix, nothing is certain, although it is looking up for hockey in the desert.
NHL.com: Seven of the most unlikely single-game performances. Quite a span of time elapsed between remarkable single-game performances.
CFL Report:
Illegal Procedure: Winnipeg Blue Bombers Papers. If you are a fan of CFL football, check out our other site, which gives you all the latest Bombers news. Plenty of news ahead of Sunday’s Banjo Bowl contest.
