Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets spent time on Friday getting ready to face the Stars although the focus was on guys like Neil Pionk (here, full media here) and Alex Iafallo (here, full media here) sharing stories of their friend Adam Johnson. While it is a gameday there won’t be a morning skate since this is a matinee between the Jets and Stars but you can still check out our pre-game report. Puck drop is at 2 PM CST.

Note II: This afternoon, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Dallas, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose were on the ice for another day of practice on Friday as they continued to get set to welcome Laval to town for a matinee on Sunday and then a school day game on Monday morning. We spoke to Jeffrey Viel and Danny Zhilkin after practice which you can watch here. The big news regarding the AHL club of Winnipeg was the news that captain Jimmy Oligny will require surgery and is expected to miss months of the season as a result.

Note IV:  How about you join us this morning for two hours of Winnipeg Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM sharp. We will be joined by Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun and Mike Heika, senior Staff Writer for the Dallas Stars website.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: “Forever grateful”: Jets’ Pionk overwhelmed by Chipman support. The actions of the Jets organization have resonated not just within the team but throughout the NHL as they showed they were prepared to go above and beyond for their players.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Pionk, Iafallo working through loss of friend. When you are in the prime of your life it is hard to fathom loss of a contemporary and it was clear that these two (and likely the other friends of Adam Johnson on the Jets) are dealing with a lot of pain but are drawing a lot of strength from their teammates and the organization.

Yahoo Sports: Jets’ decision to dodge a rebuild, keep their stars is paying dividends so far.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Six Winnipeg Jets stats that explain the season so far, with insight from Mason Appleton. (Paywall). Murat bent the ear of number 22 to get his insight into the numbers.

Global News: Jets winning against Central opponents, but real test comes today. The top dawg in the Central comes to town today and it will be a big test for Winnipeg to see where they stand when it comes to upper echelon talent.
