Note: The Jets were off on Friday after they picked up their third straight win on Thursday night in Detroit. Today they are in Montreal where they will take on the Habs. With it being a gameday all eyes will be on morning skate which gets underway at 10:30 AM CDT. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.
Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Montreal, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.
Note III: The Moose battled back last night in Texas courtesy of two (Wyatt Bongiovanni – see here and Kyle Capobianco – see here) power play goals which got them to extra time which solved nothing. Brad Lambert scored the only goal while Oskari Salmien didn’t allow any to cross the line which gave Manitoba a 3-2 shootout win (see full shootout here). Tonight they have a re-match with the Stars to conclude this quick, two-game road trip. Puck drop is at 7 PM.
Note IV: How about you join us this morning for two hours of Winnipeg Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM sharp. We will be joined by Sara Orlesky of the Jets and Marc Dumont who covers the Habs for Montreal Hockey Now.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Brothers Barron face off in Jets-Habs tilt. (Paywall). Hopefully we see some family members rocking the split jersey of the boys. I remember Ryan and Drew Miller’s mom would do that during games in Detroit (and presumably other spots).
Winnipeg Free Press: Wheeler wallowing in New York. (Paywall). Sounds like things haven’t gotten off to the right start in NYC for the former Jets captain.
Global News: Jets aren’t going anywhere, Chipman says, amid attendance woes. Sam wrote about yesterday’s chat between Jim Toth and executive chairman of the Jets Mark Chipman (which you can listen to below).
Global News: What a difference a week makes for Winnipeg Jets. Hence the reason why you don’t freak out when a team starts out 1-3-0 and while you similarly don’t plan the parade when the team has won three straight. The season is a marathon not a sprint.
CBC: Downtown Winnipeg needs to feel safe for struggling Jets, arts sector to thrive, mayor says. There is a noticeable lack of life preceding the game. The skywalk from Portage Place to Canada Life should be open with restaurants and folks eating/drinking before the game and it is a ghost town. Making people feel safe would certainly go a long way to getting more folks downtown for an event.
Jets audio:
CJOB 680: The Jim Toth Show – Chat with Jets co-owner Mark Chipman. Executive chairmanMark Chipman joined Jim on The Jim Toth Show to chat about this and more yesterday afternoon. Runs about 11 minutes.
