Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets were scheduled to practice on Friday before they took off for Edmonton but they cancelled and instead simply travelled to Alberta. They did recall Dominic Toninato from the Moose. They take on an Oilers team who, like Winnipeg, are 1-3-0 to start the season. Morning skate gets underway at 12:30 PM CDT. Check back for the pre-game report. Puck drop is at 9 PM and we want you to join us after the final buzzer on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show.

Note II: It was an eventful Friday night at Canada Life for the Moose and Wild who did battle. The game started off right for Manitoba but they were forced to try to battle back after some penalty trouble saw them playing catchup. Despite Jets 2022 1st rounder Brad Lambert scoring his third goal in three games to bring them within one they were unable to cue the comeback and ended up getting doubled up by Iowa. The highlights of the game may have been some of the oddities with Parker Ford, who wears 25, starting the 2nd period in a number 55 jersey and this dad snagging Carson Lambos flying stick. The two teams meet again tonight at 6 PM. If you wanna go to the game send me an email (dave @ illegalcurve .com) and you can sit in the IC Zone.

Note III: Lots of Jets prospects were in action on Friday night and while we didn’t get them all covered we did get updates on 2022 1st rounder Rutger McGroarty who had one goal/one assist and is currently leading the NCAA in scoring, goalie Thomas Milic made his pro debut in the ECHL for Norfolk where he had a .913 save % in a shootout loss, fellow 5th rounder Jacob Julien showed off some nice hands and 1st rounder Colby Barlow scored his sixth goal in six games for Owen Sound.

Note IV: Tune in for two hours of Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show today starting at 9 AM as we kick off your Jets game day coverage. Joining us for a chat are Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press and John Matisz of theScore.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Plenty to like from Jets so far, but the bad is costing them. It does seem rather unfortunate that Winnipeg is 1-3-0 given they’ve played well enough for that number to be reversed at 3-1-0 but you are what your record says you are. For now the Jets need to eliminate the ‘bad’ as Scott outlines it and reinforce the ‘good’. Or as Kevin Nealon said in Happy Gilmore “Energy Block Bad”.

Winnipeg Sun: No shortage of fan feedback on Winnipeg Jets crowd collapse. That’s part of the passion of this market is that folks have opinions about what has gone wrong and what the organization can do to fix things. True North would do well to pay heed to these comments.

Global News: Confident play of backup goalie Laurent Brossoit is a plus for Jets. There is no question that having a formidable tandem will benefit this Jets club down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: Why the narrative that Jets fans need a winner to start showing up is wrong. Jets insider Sean Reynolds joins the Jeff Marek Show to discuss how this Winnipeg Jets fanbase has proven time and time again that they’re there to support their hockey team through thick and thin, and don’t need a winner to start showing up.

Sportsnet: What are some factors playing into the low attendance numbers in Winnipeg? Jets analyst Sean Reynolds joins The Jeff Marek Show to discuss why he doesn’t like that narrative that the Jets fans are to blame for the low attendance numbers, and provides some of the many factors that have played into the decline.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve Hockey: Wild comeback to defeat the Moose 4-2. Check out our recap which features lineup news, the lines/D pairs used by Manitoba, notable game moments, media availabilities with players and coach and more.
