Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Illegal Curve Sandwich contest continues and we need your help in constructing this potential culinary masterpiece.  We’ve had some great (and not so great) suggestions, but we need more.  Get your votes in now!

Breaking News:  Winnipeg Free Press reporting that TSN has an agreement with True North to secure broadcast rights for the Jets (more in afternoon links above).

Toronto Sun:  Hull of a question.  In NHL hockey aside from wearing #99, most numbers are wide open, but good for Kane in being bold enough to ask.  Hopefully he can use Hull as inspiration on the ice.

The Tennessean:  Nashville Predators hope to expand into Atlanta market.  No reason not to at least make an attempt.  As we said, there was a very dedicated base in Atlanta that the Preds would be smart to attempt to solicit, however having said that, they are also dealing with a fan base very angry at the NHL, so it might be a tough sell.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Ex-Moose players move to Jets’ AHL affiliate.  Generally a new franchise would experience a number of growing pains as they tried to get used to a brand new system but the squad that True North has put together should be able to by-pass those expansion team pitfalls.

Times Colonist:  Former S-Kings boss off to AHL.  For an organization that has shown a propensity of hiring from within, it is good to get to know the players or in this case a coach in the Jets AHL affiliate.

Around the NHL:

National Post:  20 questions with NHL super agent Don Meehan. Probably the biggest name in the world of hockey representation, his tactics are sometimes controversial (see the Brad Richards dog and pony show during free agent frenzy), but more often than not he gets big results for his clients (see the Brad Richards client with the Rangers)

Columbus Dispatch:  Jackets’ new arrivals face great expectations.  Probably the one team I’m most interested in watching next season to see how this off-season experimentation turns out.

Edmonton Journal:  Memo to Oilers’ powerplay – shoot.  I watched these young Oilers play the Wings at the Joe last season and they looked young and inexperienced compared to the Wings.  As the develop team chemistry, I’d expect the skill on this team to really start to shine, especially on the PP.
