Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The 2023-24 season gets underway today as players will participate in off ice testing although their first day of availability will be tomorrow. Here are the Jets training camp groups including the full rosters and schedule. While the players won’t be speaking today we are set to hear from GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and head coach Rick Bowness. We will have those available on our YouTube channel as well as on this site.

Note II: There was some buzz generated on Tuesday as the team sent out a media release indicating that they will be unveiling a special jersey on Saturday at Fan Fest. Which is also a good time to remind you that we will be live from 9-11 AM on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show so be sure you’re subscribing to the YouTube channel.

Note III: Last night on TSN’s Insider Trading Dreger indicated(re: 37 & 55) that contract talks have happened but it’s backburner issue for now. Full story here.

Note IV: Former Winnipeg Jets draft pick Jared Moe (2018 6th) signed with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL and was also invited to Coyotes training camp. The Jets had until last month to sign him but instead chose to let the netminder become a free agent.

Jets news:

Global News: Adam Lowry to chart his own course as new Jets captain. Just dawned on me that Lowry is truly the first homegrown captain in the 2.0 era. Paul wrote about how he will handle this new role.

Winnipeg Sun: All eyes on Jets’ second-line centre job, Scheifele and Hellebuyck. Check out Scott’s training camp preview.

Winnipeg Free Press: Plenty of competition for roster spots as Jets take win-now approach into training camp. (Paywall). Mike and Ken combined for this one giving an assessment of the state of things in Jetsland.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Projecting the Winnipeg Jets’ opening-night lineup: Roster battles, waivers issues and more. (Paywall). I’d be hard pressed to recall a season where it seems like almost all positions are accounted for and there are really just one spot as 13th forward and another as the 8th defenceman that remain “up in the air”.

Jets audio:

CJOB 680: Jets @ Noon. Jets radio colour analyst Jamie Thomas joined Cam Poitras on Jets @ Noon to discuss the Young Stars Tournament which took place this past weekend in BC. They then moved the talk to training camp.
