Note: Congrats to @mattleibl, @icdrew and yours truly @icdave on a well deserved victory in last night’s WJMBL slow pitch finals. The House swept to victory for our first title. Chances are if you listened to the Big Show with Jay Richardson and Troy Westwood on TSN Radio 1290 this morning, you heard Matt Leibl describing in great detail the road to the championship.
Jets news:
Jets official site: Jets announce national broadcast schedule. A lot of good games will be featured next season…we hope.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets skaters preparing to play hockey, wherever that may be. Lots of different options for the various guys on the team. Both Antropov and Scheifele are hoping to start their seasons at the MTS Centre but know that they could just as easily be elsewhere.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets rep Hainsey finds bargaining process fascinating. Seems like a lot of buzzwords and cliches being thrown around. Hainsey does come across as a bit cerebral so it is not surprising that he is interested in the collective bargaining process.
Sportsnet: Breakout players for the Jets. The Jets will be looking to their new found size and the continued development of players like Bogosian as this team attempts to become a contender.
Illegal Curve: Top 10 Jets home games. Ezra and I broke down the 2012-13 season and picked our top 10 Jets games to see. What are yours?
CBA news:
News and Observer: Lockout timeline coming into focus. The second deadline is a lot more concerning for the NHL than the first one.
Toronto Sun: Talks have young NHLers hopeful. Unfortunately the lack of urgency still shows that neither side is terribly serious about getting something done by September 15th.
The Province: Players brought some of this on themselves. Fans are certainly not crying for millionaire players who are hoping to maintain a style of living most could only wish for.
Sportsnet: Big man in the boardroom. What he lacks in stature he more than makes up for with the most important part of your body, your brain. Taking him lightly for any reason is done at your own peril.
National Post: Players plan to make CBA counter-offer by end of week. Is anyone surprised at this point that the players refuse to concede that the offer from the owners was “meaningful”? Of course the NHL is hoping that public opinion which seems neutral will, once again, turn on the players as fans will interpret this latest move for greed.
Pittsburgh Tribune: Malkin, others make plans for NHL lockout. Cannot fault the players for making alternative plans in case the CBA deal does not get done.
NHL news:
USA Today: Coyotes sale stalled by Glendale, lockout threat. At this point I refuse to be surprised. About the only thing that might shock me is when I read the headline “Coyotes deal done”.
CFL Report:
Illegal Procedure: Winnipeg Blue Bombers Papers. If you are a fan of CFL football, check out our other site, which gives you all the latest Bombers news.
