Jets news:
Jets official site: Producing Postma. The Jets can certainly use some points from the blue line. Will he be able to crack a regular spot in the lineup this season?
CBA news:
National Post: The state of the standoff in the NHL. This could be the most critical week of negotiations between the two sides.
National Post: Winners and losers of the NHL off-season. Sean McIndoe is always good for a laugh, which is nice considering where the NHL and NHLPA appear to be headed.
New York Post: NHL, union to resume talks. One word; urgency. Neither side is acting like time is running out but they should be. Instead of acknowledging that they have under 3 weeks to resolve this battle, both sides should negotiate like tomorrow is the last day. Wouldn’t kill either side to spend 12-15 hours negotiating, instead of these 2 hour “marathon” sessions.
SI.com: Ex-NHLPA boss Goodenow may be proved right. This idea that ownership was concerned about the fans paying too much is laughable, especially when you see the rise in prices. Unfortunately for Goodenow, his union didn’t stay strong in the face of the owners resolve. Wonder if he knew back in 2004 that the Jets would return?
NHL news:
Arizona Republic: Glendale, NHL extend Phoenix Coyotes arena agreement for fourth time. Nothing terribly new with this latest piece of news. They’ve simply renewed the lease for another month. Clearly the NHL doesn’t have time to micro-manage Phoenix with all their focus on the CBA talks but how much longer can this continue?
Edmonton Journal: Can Justin Schultz possibly live up to the hype? As the Public Enemy song suggests “Don’t believe the hype”. This kid had at least a dozen teams after him and while he should be pretty good as he continues to develop, is it a bit too much to expect him to be able to make an immediate impact.
Vancouver Sun: New Lack deal adds intrigue between the pipes. Looks like Lack will be a big piece of the Canucks AHL puzzle this season, with expectations that he will be up with the big club in Year 2 of the deal.
