Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: We are now in the quiet stretch of time which silence may be broken with news of a signing of the remaining RFAs (Vilardi, Kupari, Stanley & Chisholm) as well as a potential free agent or two. Like yesterday when it was announced by the Jets that they had signed Morgan Barron to a two-year deal. That leaves Gabe Vilardi as the lone player with an arbitration date.

Note II: Maybe you’ve got some mid summer questions? If so maybe Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg might have some answers. He’s opening up his latest mailbag so if you’ve got one or two hit him here.

Jets news:

Elite Prospects: How Brad Lambert’s time in the WHL improved his stock with the Winnipeg Jets. (Paywall). His move to centre was something that wouldn’t have been tried in the AHL and will certainly create new options for him potentially at the pro level.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets prospect deep dive, part 2: Nikita Chibrikov, Thomas Milic and other NHL hopefuls. (Paywall). Murat gives you his 6-10 rankings for Jets prospects and a pair of Goalie of the Year winners are smack dab in the middle.

Jets audio:

680 CJOB: Jets at Noon. On the show yesterday the guys spoke with Morgan Barron. They chat about the injury he suffered in Vegas in the series against the Golden Knights, the many changes to the Winnipeg lineup, his expectations for the upcoming season, reflecting on the past season, whether there is added pressure to produce, what area do the Jets need to improve on next year, what derailed the consistency in the second half of the season, going through tougher times to learn, getting prepared for the upcoming season, how his summer has been going and more.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday Podcast. On the show we discussed the lack of buzz surrounding Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck, potential contracts for Gabe Vilardi and Morgan Barron, Mike McIntyre’s article on Nino Niederreiter and his importance to Winnipeg this upcoming season, the overall depth of the Jets and we took a look around at the Central Division. We also had former TSN 1290 personality Rick Ralph and Predators radio play-by-play voice Willy Daunic join us for a chat.
