Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets, Bombers plates hot items for thievesCannot say I am overly surprised.  It was/is a status symbol to steal a Jaguar or BMW logo off a car and now in the Peg’ it appears that sports licence plates has joined this list of items to pilfer.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Kroppy is the King of KenoraHe always received a roar whenever he was featured on the jumbotron at the MTS Centre.

Dmitry Chesnokov:  Good DeedsHere is an interesting read from Dmitry Chesnokov who usually writes for yahoo.com, and who has a close connection to the NHL’s Russian players, about Red Wings great Pavel Datsyuk helping out a young Alexander Burmistrov.

Jets official Site:  Remaining OptimisticIf you missed the Evander Kane audio we posted yesterday morning or are unable to listen to audio at work or in the car, Kristi has put together a lot of the quotes from the Jets sniper.

CBA news:

Overtime:  Why limiting term is a bad ideaCan the NHL afford to lose creativity?  Our own Richard Pollock with some great insight on why the NHL won’t want to go the same route as the NBA.  Or perhaps he is worried that if it can happen in the NHL, perhaps it could happen on IC and we might try and limit his term.

Arizona Republic:  CBA dealings add new wrinkle to Phoenix Coyotes’ Shane DoanWhile Greg Jamison might have until January (before the new council takes office), it appears that the team only has until September 14th to get a deal done with their captain.

National Post: Gary Bettman is out to make amends for NHL ownersYou cannot really fault Bettman for wanting to fix things that he see’s as broken.  His position is to steer the ship and to do so in a manner consistent with how his 30 owners want him to.  He will do whatever it takes to please those he reports to as would most employees.

New York Daily News:  NHL and players still far apart on core CBA issuesIf anything these negotiations should be remembered for the snails pace at which they have moved along.  NHL proposal July 13th with an NHLPA counter-proposal on August 14th and a CBA deadline on September 15th.  At this pace we should be back on schedule October 16thPerhaps we will have a new IC Contest;  If there is a lockout, guess when the lockout will end.

Globe and Mail: Bettman’s gaffe implies fans are mere doormatsBased on our poll it would appear fans are with neither the players nor the owners.

Toronto Sun:  No alternate schedule in works yetUnfortunately for Jets fans they better hope they don’t lose October as that is when both the Chicago Blackhawks (16th) and Detroit Red Wings (27th) come to town for their only visits of the season.

NHL news:

New York Times:  Based on donations, N.H.L.’s American owners prefer Republican candidatesJeff Klein with some interesting, although not terribly surprising numbers for the NHL owners and how they choose to donate.

thescore:  15 Years Gone – Remembering the Hartford WhalersCount me as someone who still has nostalgia for the garish green jerseys the Whalers used to wear.
