Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets, Moose & Ice news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets practiced in New Jersey on Saturday and today the road trip continues with a game against the Devils. Normally there would be a morning skate but Jets are holding a media availablity around 3:30 PM. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6:00 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and New Jersey, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game. This season you’ll have a chance to win great schwag including authentic Jets jerseys, hats, etc after every single game (For a variety of ways to enter click here).

Note III: The Moose were off on Saturday. Today they continue their eight-game homestand with another divisional contest as they welcome the Griffins to town for a back-to-back set starting tonight. Can they win their fifth straight game? Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.

Note IV: The Ice were in Regina last night where they won again (big surprise) defeating the Pats by a final score of 7-4 for their sixth win in a row. They are next in action tomorrow night in Swift Current as they take on the Broncos as part of their ten game road trip out west.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Seller’s market gives Jets’ Cheveldayoff all-in option. If you want a list with the names being discussed around the NHL check out this one from Scott which looks at the dream acquisitions, middle six help, on the blue line, depth adds and more.

Winnipeg Sun: Struggling Jets power play gets fresh coat of paint. The power play was an anemic three for their last 33 and had slipped from the top 10 to 16th overall in the NHL. It was time to make changes.

Winnipeg Free Press: If you can’t beat Columbus you gotta get greasy. (Paywall). Before folks lose their minds about losing to Columbus the last four games the Blue Jackets beat the Leafs, Jets and Stars and lost to the Devils by a goal. Of course that game could have had a vastly different outcome if the power plays had gone differently for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets need to make a move. (Paywall). I think it is overly reactionary to suggest that the loss to the Blue Jackets is what necessitated a move for Winnipeg. As illustrated above Columbus has knocked off some pretty good hockey teams this week. Having said that we know that the Jets need to add depth to contend deep into the playoffs.

Sportsnet: Jets players keenly aware of deadline with Cheveldayoff poised to be active. Ken chronicles the news of the day on Saturday which were all the changes to the lines and power play units and also weaves in some trade discussion as well.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show: Saturday Podcast. On yesterday’s show  we discussed the Leafs trade and how it impacts the market for Winnipeg. Potential trade targets for the Jets. The Jets struggles on the power play. Strength of Jets upcoming schedule. Jets/Devils preview. Minuk Moose Minute. Our guests included Murat Ates (The Athletic Winnipeg) and Jeff O’Neill (TSN 1050 Overdrive).
