Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba playing, Housley coaching. Hopefully Housley can help teach the young gun how to pass as effectively as he used to.
Winnipeg Sun: Get in line for Jets season tix. So 2500 spots will be freed up on the waiting list, which isn’t terribly surprising as those way down the list realize they aren’t likely to get tickets anytime soon. Of course it does mean you can buy tickets when they are released instead of waiting in line. More interesting is that 128 tickets became available after True North cancelled those breaking the rules.
Hockey Prospectus: Top 10 Jets prospects. Corey Pronman, who will be a guest on tomorrow’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show, produced this list of kids in the Jets system. Read his article to give yourself a head’s up on the discussion which will take place tomorrow.
Affiliate news – St. John’s IceCaps:
The Telegram: IceCaps stay with what they know. Sticking with known commodities is probably a good thing for an AHL team which generally sees a lot of player movement throughout the year.
CBA news:
New York Daily News: Labor deal by Sept. 15 or else. The NHL continues their strong arm tactics. Of course if they allowed the negotiations to continue past the 15th, while keeping the season intact, they would be at the mercy of the NHLPA.
Montreal Gazette: Bettman’s legacy might be one of work stoppages. End of day, Bettman works for the owners and does exactly what his 30 (29 since Phx owned by league) bosses tell him to do.
Globe and Mail: NHL hockey on verge of being frozen out till new year. Both the NFL and NBA avoided losing seasons last year and the NHL, if they knew what was good for them, would be well advised to similarly avoid a season ending lockout.
Toronto Star: Ignore NHL threat to lock out players by Sept. 15 if no CBA deal reached. During negotiations anything can be threatened.
