Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets, Moose & Ice news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets practiced on Monday as they prepared for tonight’s game against the Kraken. There was some post-practice news as the team announced that they had placed Axel Jonsson-Fjallby on waivers with the expected return of Dylan DeMelo. With it being a gameday all eyes will be on morning skate which gets underway at 10:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Seattle, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game. This season you’ll have a chance to win great schwag including authentic Jets jerseys, hats, etc after every single game (For a variety of ways to enter click here).

Note III: The Moose were in Toronto yesterday a month to the day that they had a game postponed due to a medical situation involving a spectator. The game would start in the 2nd period tied 1-1 but as play-by-play voice Daniel Fink indicated before the game this game was essentially a continuation of the previous game so if the Moose won it wouldn’t mean they’ve won three straight because this game would count as having been concluded a month ago. It led to this unusual twist with Alex Limoges “setting” a new career high in points in the game. The biggest news from the game was that captain Jimmy Oligny made his return to the lineup for the first time this season. Ultimately the Moose lost 4-2 and are now 24-16-3-2 on the season. They return to Manitoba to play eight straight games.

Note IV: The Ice have one last home game tomorrow night against the Broncos before they head out on the road for 10 straight games.

Note V: And you thought the only ice you’d see Dustin Byfuglien on would be if he’s ice fishing but somehow former Jets captain Andrew Ladd got the big guy back out on the ice. Maybe there’s still time left in the season to sign him….

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ steady defenceman Dylan DeMelo slated for return vs. Kraken. Presuming he is healthy you’d have to think he will return to a pairing with Josh Morrissey (which isn’t how he was paired during practice on Monday.

Winnipeg Free Press: Healthy Jets face numbers crunch. And it won’t get any easier with David Gustafsson slowly improving.

Winnipeg Free Press: DeMelo returns after missing three games due to timely injury. While he isn’t heralded the way other flashier types are he provides this team with such a steady presence.

Scouting the Refs: Injury to Appleton prompts change to arena glass. For the pain the Jets winger had to endure from the injury and thereafter the recovery the least the NHL could do would be to name it after him (mostly a joke). The folks who cover all things rules wrote about it.

Jets video:

TSN: How big of an addition would Meier be for the JetsJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff took a trip to the west coast last week to get a closer look at the top player on TSN’s Trade Bait board Timo Meier. John Lu has more on the trip and how big of a boost a player like Meier would be to their lineup.
