Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jet bodychecks case against him. Still cannot believe this is scheduled to go to trial. Big Buff is trying to prevent that by filing a Motion to have the case dismissed.
CBA news:
Globe and Mail: Why NHL teams cry poor despite the league’s record growth. Are the players responsible to help save failing franchises?
Comcast Philadelphia: No update on NHL labor negotiations. Let’s hope no news is good news. Slow and steady wins the race and you couldn’t expect these negotiations to wrap up in a week.
Toronto Sun: Bettman thinking positive. Someone needs to record the number of cliche statements that will be made over the next few weeks as they NHL and NHLPA meet to resolve the CBA problems.
NHL news:
National Post: Maple Leafs taking baby steps with roster renovations. It is actually mind boggling that a team so successful at the gate can be that bad on the ice. The Leafs have not had any real success since they lost in the Conference Finals to the Hurricanes in 2001-02.
Chicago Tribune: Hossa says he satisfied with progress in recovery from concussion. Good news as the NHL can always use a player of Hossa’s skill back on the ice. It would truly be a shame to only see Torres on the ice in 2012-13.
Chicago Sun-Times: Patrick Kane embarrassed by trip to Madison, vows change. Time will tell if he has truly learned his lesson. Easy to say some words and hope that is sufficient. More difficult to prove that you actually intend to live by what you say. If Kane does however, the Hawks could benefit big time.
