Jets news:

Globe and Mail:  Jets blindsided by Pavelec drunk-driving conviction.  Not much that hasn’t already been discussed in the Free Press or Sun, but additional publicity on a subject the Jets would like to go away until they can have a chance to have their 1 on 1 with Pavelec and present a united message.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Pavs sorry, Jets aren’t thrilled either. Rightly so as it appears everyone was caught with their pants around their ankles on this one.

Jets Statement:

“The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club would like to state we have now confirmed the details surrounding Ondrej Pavelec while driving under the influence in Kladno, Czech Republic, on May 26, 2012. The organization was deeply disappointed to learn of this information yesterday and is fully aware of the seriousness of this matter. We will determine our course of action once we have the chance to meet and discuss with Ondrej in person, which we expect to do at the earliest possible opportunity.”

Winnipeg Sun:  Pavelec is sorry.  But is he sorry for getting caught or truly sorry for his actions?  While you cannot castigate someone for one mistake for the rest of their life, it would be beneficial for Pavelec if he could use his celebrity to shed some light on the issue of drinking and driving in the future.  Perhaps some good can come from this after all.

Pavelec Statement:

“I’m disappointed in myself for this error in judgment. I’m thankful no one was injured as a result of my actions. I want to sincerely apologize to our fans, the Winnipeg Jets organization and to my teammates for any embarrassment this has caused. I’m truly sorry for letting you all down.”

The Manitoban:  Bison hockey continues to evolve.  From using Bison goalie Joe Caligiuri in a practice last season to inviting a prospect to the development camp, the Jets 2.0 are maintaining a relationship with the Bisons that they had when the Moose were in-town.

CBA news:

New York Post:  NHL’s proposal a joke.  Commish Bettman and company have been down this road before and know a thing or two about how to achieve their goals.

Globe and Mail: Ownership, union philosophies far apart.  While these are the dog days of summer, there isn’t as much time as one might think to try and bridge the gap between the two sides.

Ottawa Citizen: What fans should hope for in the NHL’s new CBA.  Some items to look for as the CBA talk gets going.

NHL news:

CBC:  Zach Parise ‘ran the show’ + 30 Thoughts.  Final 30 thoughts for the season and Elliotte Friedman doesn’t disappoint, including an extra bonus 14 thoughts.

MLive:  Red Wings made big pitch for Rick Nash, but Columbus not willing to deal with Detroit.  Don’t expect Nash to be wearing a Winged Wheel anytime soon.

The Province: Canucks in tough to land Shane Doan despite multi-year offer.  A good read on Doan’s intention to possibly play for Vancouver, made even better by the Simpson reference in the article.

ESPN: Axelsson eyes return to NHL.  Seems to be the return of the aging former NHL players this season.
