Note: Considering in 2021 the Jets made just three picks on day 2 and four in total the seven selections they made in Montreal the last few days has added quite a few nice pieces to the prospect cupboard. Once the Draft concluded on Friday there was a presser with Director of amateur scouting Mark Hillier who provided plenty of interesting tidbits on the seven draft picks selected by Winnipeg.

Note II:  Normally we’d be switching focus to Jets prospect development camp but Winnipeg won’t be hosting one this year. Instead it will be a focus on which RFAs the Jets will sign (or qualify) and then free agency which starts next Wednesday. Elliotte Friedman had an interesting tidbit on Paul Stastny in his latest 32 Thoughts Podcast.

Note III: After two days of drafting, a new head coach and plenty of roster intrigue it is going to make for an action packed Illegal Curve Hockey Show this morning. Joining us to discuss will be Jim Toth of CJOB 680. Be part of the conversation which gets underway on our YouTube channel at 9 AM.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: Jets’ scouting staff trust judgment at NHL Draft to replenish prospect pool. Good stuff on the prospects drafted from Wieber and a good nugget from him at the end indicating the Jets made Comrie an offer.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets add what they lacked, fleshed out prospect stable at 2022 draft. With D prospects potentially graduating and a need to augment the pool on the right side that is just what the organization did on day two of the draft.

Winnipeg Free Press: A bright future is great, but Jets must make the present a priority. (Paywall). After two days of drafting prospects the optimism level is quite high around the NHL but it always bears reminding that most of these prospects won’t have an impact for years to come (if they do at all). There is still plenty of need in Winnipeg to focus on the task at hand which is figuring out the composition of the roster that will start the 2022-23 season in October.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets fill cupboard in Montreal. (Paywall). Forwards who can score and defenceman on both the right and left was just what the doctor ordered for the Jets pipeline.

Jets video:

TSN: Button breaks down where each Canadian team stands after the NHL DraftWith the 2022 NHL Draft wrapped up in Montreal, Craig Button joins Ryan Rishaug and goes across the country to break down the moves that all of the Canadian teams have made so far and where they stand ahead of free agency.

Draft news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Five more Manitobans chosen on Day 2 of draft. Nobody covers junior hockey like Mike does so give his latest story a ready on all the talent from Manitoba that was selected.

Winnipeg Sun: Manitoba shines at 2022 NHL Draft. There was a lot of happy folks from Manitoba as a number of kids from this province were selected on Thursday and Friday.
