Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets needed to pick up two points last night when they welcomed the Golden Knights to town and that’s just what they did picking up a big 7-4 win over Vegas to bring them even closer to the playoff line (which Vegas currently holds). Still no update on Andrew Copp although Darren Dreger on Insider Trading said the expectation is that he would be available to play on Friday against the Bruins. The Jets are off today.

Note II: The Moose were in Abbotsford last night and while it hasn’t been the best place for them this season they had themselves a solid evening equalizing the game in the opening period of play and then winning it in OT courtesy of Jeff Malott‘s 18th goal of the season (see it here). This Moose team has the third most wins of any team in seven seasons since the return to Winnipeg. They won 42 in 2017-18, they won 39 in 2018-19 and this team is on pace for 45 wins. These two clubs have another re-match set for tonight with puck drop at 9 PM CDT.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: The Jets are surging. Will it change Cheveldayoff’s trade deadline approach? Imagine if they defeat Boston and Chicago the next two games before the trade deadline. Quite the conundrum.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets sparked to convincing win over Golden Knights. Staged fighting is pretty useless but Logan Stanley’s tilt with the home side being outshot 6-0 sure seemed to turn the tide in last night’s game.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets thump hurting Golden Knights. (Paywall). Mike gives you the lay of the land from his spot inside Canada Life.

Winnipeg Free Press: Copp held out of lineup as precaution. (Paywall). In addition to a focus on number 9, Jason wrote about Adam Brooks return to the line and Evgeny Svechnikov’s “kind words”.

Sportsnet: Wheeler credits ‘Bronx’ cheers for sparking Jets to win over Vegas. Players don’t want to get boo birds from fans but they obviously have to understand when they don’t register a shot in the first 12 minutes of game the paying customers aren’t gonna be pleased. Seems to be much ado about nothing.

Sportsnet: How the Jets have put themselves in a good spot down the stretchSean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe discuss how the Jets have been able to put themselves in a good spot down the stretch, what is working so well for the red-hot Kyle Connor, and why management might not want to be sellers at the trade deadline.
