Jets news:

The Detroit News:  Jacob Trouba reaffirms commitment to Michigan hockey team.  We shall see what happens with the Jets 1st overall pick this year.

TSN:  Jets are a better team with signing of Jokinen.  Rick Ralph evaluates the good, the bad and the money associated with the Olli Jokinen deal the Jets signed yesterday.

Winnipeg Sun:  Not Jokinen about Jets’ chances.  Some quotes from the conference call today.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets have Olli on board.  So far fans have been very happy with this unexpected addition to the Jets roster.  The only complaint is that in his hockey career he is limited to only 6 playoff games.  Aside from that his scoring and size are seen as big additions to the Jets.

Winnipeg Free Press:  The Jokinen file.  Getting to know your newest member of the Winnipeg Jets.

Winnipeg Sun:  Is need for sniper worth Jets taking chance on Semin?  The enigmatic Russian would certainly add some scoring to the Jets right side.  Of course the $6.7 million he made last season and his often questioned “attitude” problems have us wondering if his positives outweigh the negatives?  And there has to be a reason his services haven’t been snapped up already.

Michigan Daily:  Trouba family considering “huge offer” from OHL.  An interesting report, but one that doesn’t really impact Jets fans in near future as despite either path he takes, the expectation is he won’t be a member of Winnipeg for at least another two years.  It will however be interesting to see if he and his family consider Kitchener of the OHL a better option for his development than the University of Michigan.  For what it is worth, the President of the Kitchener Rangers said this report is “utterly false“.  Matt Slovin, who wrote the article, tweeted that “Kitchener head coach Steve Spott has declined to comment on whether or not such an offer has been made to Trouba”.

NHL news:

Globe and Mail:  NHL entering the dog days of summer.  Always a great read from Roy.

Chicago Tribune:  NHL reduces Torres’ suspension and its own credibility.  Not sure the NHL should have reduced his suspension.  What do you think?  Fair or Foul?

Toronto Star: A More Interesting Second Day.  Some news and notes from Day 2 of free agency.

Edmonton Journal:  Yakupov puts on a show.  He’s young and excited but expectations are that he will be deadly serious when the time comes to play.

Montreal Gazette:  Habs’ Price confident he can deliver.  Eats up a lot of cap space for Montreal, but they feel that the price was right for their goaltender of the future.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Who’s still out there?  The Pens expect to be in on the Parise sweepstakes but in case they are not, here are some other players that could help them down the road.
