Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Pavelec gets five-year deal, must now bump up gameThe big concern is that now that the player has the big contract he will rest on his laurels and become complacent.  Fans shouldn’t expect that from the Jets young goalie as he continues his quest to become an elite level talent in the NHL.

Winnipeg Sun:  Turning attention to new deal with KaneNow that they’ve gotten the Pavelec deal done, time for Chevy and company to get the Jets sniper signed.

Winnipeg Sun:  Pavelec big piece of puzzle.   There was a lot of concern going into this week as to what the Jets were going to do about locking up their goalies for next season.  It looks like the starter position has been filled for the next 5 seasons.

Illegal Curve:  Comments from Pavelec & Jets GM Cheveldayoff on contractPavelec said all the right things from his home in the Czech Republic and will have an opportunity next season to prove his worth.

General NHL news:

CBC: NHL brass muzzled, players not during labour talksIn the court of public opinion (not that this means much) the players ability to speak freely could help garner sympathy in their upcoming battle against ownership.

Edmonton Journal: Doors open for Schultz sale on WednesdayYou would think with this fanfare the teams are fighting for a 1st overall pick who pulled a Lindros and is waiting to be courted by another team.  Obviously a number of teams are interested in his services (front runners being: Oilers, Wings, Leafs, Canucks and a few others) and it will be interesting to see who secures his services.

NHL.com:  Sakic, Shanahan highlight list of expected Hall callsWho will be the other 2 candidates to get the call today?  Of that list which players are most deserving?

The Detroit News:  NHL Awards Show needs to be put out of its miseryHard to argue for the awards show being necessary having never watched oneDo you feel it is relevant?

National Post: NHL filled with history of brotherly loveMissing from this list are the Broten brothers (Neal, Aaron and Paul) from Roseau, Minnesota home of the Jets Dustin Byfuglien.
