Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  It was a big night on Monday for Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck who became the first goalie in Jets history (1.0 or 2.0) and Thrashers history to win a Vezina Trophy.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Hellebuyck was the clear choice for Vezina, and it wasn’t close.  Scott with his thoughts on the award winning performance that was on display during the regular season by Connor Hellebuyck.

Winnipeg Sun:  Hellebuyck takes home Vezina Trophy, becomes first major award winner for Jets since 1993.  Been some time since Jets took home the hardward and as we know this is the first time ever a Jet has won a Vezina.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Hellebuyck wins Vezina Trophy. (Paywall).  Mike spoke to a number of the people who are part of the team that work with Hellebuyck and help him achieve his goals.

Sportsnet: Hellebuyck’s unshakeable confidence the driving force to Vezina Trophy win.  One thing the Jets goalie doesn’t lack is confidence.  Whether he has put up a shutout or allowed four goals the tender seems to have the same demeanor post-game.

The Athletic Winnipeg:  Connor Hellebuyck has won the Vezina. What’s next for Winnipeg’s star goalie? (Paywall).  Individual accolades are nice but it is pretty clear that Hellebuyck has one trophy on his mind.

TSN:  An early Canadian Expansion Draft primer.  Fairly certain the Jets would be protecting Tucker Poolman over Logan Stanley.  If anything I suspect it would more likely look like Sami Niku or Tucker Poolman.  I also don’t think the Jets are inclined to expose Adam Lowry given the absence of centre depth on this team.

TSN:  Jets’ Hellebuyck wins Vezina Trophy.  Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck captured the first Vezina Trophy of his career. He finished second in the league in wins and saw the most pucks of any goalie, in both shots faced and saves made. That’s Hockey discusses why Hellebuyck deserved this win.

Prospect talk:

The Athletic:  NHL staff mock draft 2020.  (Paywall).  The goal of the mock draft was to “predict what would actually happen on draft day, not what the writers would do if they were running the team.”  For the Jets that player was Jake Sanderson.  When we had ESPN Draft Analyst Chris Peters on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show I asked him what type of player the Jets would be getting if they drafted Sanderson?  Hear his answer here.
