Note: No real injury updates from yesterday’s media availability with coach Paul Maurice aside from learning that none of the injured Jets players have been on the ice.
Note II: Today is the 11th and most important day for the Jets in the Edmonton bubble as they will look to extend their play-in series lives with a game 4 victory over the Flames to send it to a fifth and deciding game on Saturday night. They will hold a closed morning skate at 11:30 AM. Be sure to check back for the pre-game report for any and all updates.
Note III: Puck drop is at 9:30 PM CT. Following the game our post-game recap will provide you with the reaction from Jets players as well as coach Maurice.
Jets news:
Sportsnet: Damaged Jets need to empty tank vs. Flames to avoid elimination. As Cody Eakin said yesterday there isn’t much point in keeping anything in reserve in tonight’s win or go home contest.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Matt Stajan on playoff stakes, the Jets-Flames matchup and Paul Maurice. (Paywall). Murat caught up with the former Flame to discuss these topics and more in this Q&A.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets believe they have the resilience to come back against Flames. There isn’t any reason to believe this team can’t come back against the Flames. But they will have to pick it up and probably not take as many penalties if they plan on sticking around to Saturday night. Ted also writes about Poolman being lucky and the Jets next man up mentality.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ penalty killing back in early-season form and it’s killing them. I thought Cody Eakin’s comment was appropriate when asked what was wrong. He began with “we are taking too many” and given the PK numbers that isn’t gonna be good for the business of winning.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ big dogs need to start eating. There isn’t any question that without Scheifele and Laine the big boys up top for Winnipeg will need to deliver if the team wants to keep their season alive.
Calgary Sun: Five keys for the Flames to advance to Stanley Cup Playoffs. Considering there hasn’t been a best of five series in the NHL since the 80s I am not sure how relevant that history is. The list of five includes: 1) Their best players must be their best players. 2) Another solid night from calm Cam. 3) Stay disciplined. 4) Manage key moments. 5) Score by committee.
Calgary Sun: Flames hope to strike hard, early against Jets in Game 4. With the way things have gone for the Jets it isn’t the 1st period that needs to be the concern as they’ve only given up two goals total in the opening frame of each of the first three games. But that middle frame hasn’t been very nice to the Jets.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets will rise or flame out together. (Paywall). It will certainly take a collective team effort similar to what they were able to accomplish in game 2.
Winnipeg Free Press: Hold up, Jets fans; it ain’t over till Hellebuyck, Wheeler, Connor say it is. (Paywall). The big three for the Jets will have to be the big three in order for this series to continue for Winnipeg.
NHL.com: Scheifele, Laine not ruled out for Jets in Game 4 against Flames. That’s true but they are also not ruled in. I would be pretty, pretty, pretty surprised if we see 55 suit up and I don’t think we see 29 either but perhaps we will see one or both or neither. Likely won’t find out until warm-up skate.
Sportsnet: Hellebuyck must lead the way to avoid elimination vs. Flames. As he has done all season long it will be on the shoulders of number 37.
Sportsnet: Talbot stealing spotlight from Hellebuyck as Flames take series lead. He has been a solid veteran presence for Calgary and handled his business when called upon.
Jets video:
TSN: Injury status of four players biggest question mark ahead of Game 4. The biggest question mark that surrounds the Jets still centres on their injury situation and the statuses of Mark Scheifele, Patrik Laine, Mason Appleton and Mathieu Perreault for Game 4 on Thursday. Sara Orlesky has more.
