Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets fought the Bruins in a tightly contested affair which was also highly entertaining contest but which ultimately saw the home side drop the contest 2-1.  And the circumstance which led the game winning goal were anything but normal.  Not only did they lose the game but they also lost veteran Mathieu Perreault who left the game with an upper-body injury and did not return.  Coach Maurice indicated he may have an update today.  Tonight they will have another tough test with defending Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis in town.  The Blues also played and lost last night in Edmonton.  Check out the pre-game report for the latest news and audio.  Puck drop is at 6 pm.

Note II:  The Moose played last night in Rockford to kick off the post All-Star break portion of their schedule and they came back to beat the IceHogs in their first shootout of the season.  JC Lipon had himself a game finishing with two goals in regulation and the shootout winner.  Manitoba remains the only team in the AHL without a overtime or shootout loss.  Today they are in Chicago where they will conclude their road trip against the Wolves.  Puck drop is at 7 pm.

Winnipeg Free Press:  The evolution of Mark Scheifele: Jets centre reflects on 500-game milestone.  (Paywall).  Hard to believe that fresh faced youth from 2011 has now reached 500 games.  

Winnipeg Sun:  Ehlers feels he was sucker-punched.  While that may be headline grabbing I appreciated that Pionk didn’t feel that the hit on Scheifele was dirty, simply that he was sticking up for a teammate.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to the game.  The keys include: 1) Stay physical. 2) Special teams. 3) Down the middle. 4) Help on the blue line. 5) The back-to-back blues.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets come out of break with a loss in a feisty affair with Bruins.  Hard to point to a mortal victory but despite not getting any points last night it was a good template for success.

Winnipeg Sun: Laine flourishing despite lower-than-he-wants goal tally.   While Laine is clearly evolving in his game it is still pretty clear that he will always prefer to be a goal scorer.

CBC:  Bye week doesn’t prove the cure as Jets endure 5th straight loss at hands of Bruins.  The frustration was palpable following another loss as it was clear they felt they could have earned themselves two points last night.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Lots of rough stuff in Jets 2-1 loss to Bruins.  (Paywall).  Hard to believe these two teams only play each other twice per season because it sure seemed like they are some serious rivalry.
