Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets made their way from Carolina following last night’s 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes over to Columbus, Ohio where they will take on the Blue Jackets tonight to conclude the pre All-Star portion of their schedule.  The Jets won’t have a morning skate although you can still check out our pre-game report.  Puck drop is at 6:30 pm CST.

Note II:  It may have been overlooked due to it being a game day on Tuesday but the Canucks announced the return of the Young Prospects Tournament in Penticton, British Columbia in September.

Note III:  The Moose practiced on Tuesday followed by players going to various community centres across the city at night.  I was told by bench boss Pascal Vincent following practice that Jets prospect David Gustafsson will likely not play this weekend in Iowa.  The team will practice again today as they continue to get ready for a big test against the second place Wild on Friday.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets free fall could cost Maurice, whether he deserves it or not.  A measured column from Scott on the current situation here in ‘Peg city.

Sportsnet:  31 Thoughts.  Thought 9 has to do with the Jets and their need for the upcoming break.

Sportsnet:  3 key issues the Jets must address to remain in the playoff hunt.  The panic button has been banged quite a bit this season.  Here are the three areas suggested: 1)  Address the very expected blue-line issues. 2) Dip into free-agent rental market to shore up centre depth. 3) Ease Connor Hellebuyck’s workload in the cage.

Winnipeg Sun:  On back-to-back, Jets in tough against rested Blue Jackets.  Columbus has won five straight games and are 8-2-0 in their last 10.  Ted offers up his five keys to the game in this game preview.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets fall into another early hole, continue alarming slide with loss to Hurricanes.  It had all the hallmarks of “here they go again” with the Jets basically being forced to play catch up.  As Ted wrote from Carolina it would prove to be a mountain too high to overcome.

Winnipeg Sun:  TSN’s Sawyer apologizes for on-air comments.  He offered up the apology in last night’s game for comments he made during a game in Minnesota earlier in the month.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets’ tailspin continues in 4-1 loss to Hurricanes.  (Paywall).  The questions are many and the answers seem to be few and far between.  Mike with his thoughts on last night’s contest.

TSN: Jets defence is stretched thin right now.  They’ve lost three straight games and have allowed at least four goals against in all of them, Craig Button explains why their defence is stretched too thin right now but says they’re still competing at the other end of the ice.

TSN:  Laine shines despite tough loss to Canes.  TSN Hockey analyst Kevin Sawyer says that while there is some desperation in Winnipeg’s play as of late, Patrick Laine was a bright spot when he was on the ice.
