Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note:  The Jets practiced on Monday and it appears that Coach Maurice will stick with what worked for him last game against Edmonton as he didn’t change up the lines or D pairs.  There will be no morning skate for the Jets but there is a media availability at 10:30 am CT where we may learn who gets the start in net against the Los Angeles Kings.  Be sure to check out the Pre-game Report for the latest news and audio.  Puck drop between the Jets and Kings is at 7 pm CT.

Note II:  The Moose will practice again today as they continue to get ready for a pair of games this weekend on the road starting Friday in Grand Rapids and then concluding on Saturday in Chicago.  They are scheduled to hit the ice at 11 AM out at the IcePlex.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Five things to know ahead of Jets and Kings. Scott Billeck’s big matchup is Mark Scheifele vs. Drew Doughty. His five things to watch include: 1) Replicate last game defensively. 2) 5 on 5 drive. 3) Kings turnaround. 4) Hot Hellebuyck and 5) Pionk’s power play.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets Notebook. Scott’s notes include: 1) Road to 700 wins littered with thievery. 2) Pionk’s promotion. 3) Bitetto progressing.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets, Heinola fast-approaching decision time.  To slightly modify that classic song by The Clash… Should He Stay or Should He Go?  That is the question folks are asking as 2019 1st round pick Ville Heinola approaches the ten game mark which would see him burn off a year of his entry-level contract.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine on fire despite pre-season absence.  (Paywall).  Clearly the work he put in this summer is paying big dividends early in the season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Dahlstrom still chasing first goal.  (Paywall).  From stop-gap to something more than that.  An opportunity here in Winnipeg for the Swedish defender.

NHL.com:  Laine eager to create new memories with Jets at Heritage ClassicSomething about pond hockey that everyone who has ever played hockey, whether NHLers or average Joes, can appreciate.

The Athletic Winnipeg:  Inside Paul Maurice’s journey to 700 wins.  (Paywall).  It has been quite the road from his first victory back on November 7, 1995  when his Hartford Whalers beat the San Jose Sharks 7–3 for his first NHL victory.  Ken takes you along for the ride from even before that time to now.

The Athletic Winnipeg: 10 stats that define the Winnipeg Jets’ first 10 games. (Paywall).  Murat looks at the good and bad including: 1)  Hellebuyck’s save percentage. 2) Jets PK. 3) Scheifele’s point total. 4) Connor’s shooting percentage. 5) Laine’s assists. 6) Ehlers penalties drawn. 7) Lack of experience of Jets D corp. 8) Missing Byfuglien. 9) Jets odds of sadness. 10) Heinola’s future.  And a bonus 11) Maurice’s 700th win.

Jets video:

TSN: Pionk to see PP time for Jets. Trying to get their power play rolling ahead of their game against the Kings, the Jets have taken Josh Morrissey off of the top group, replacing him with Neal Pionk.
