Note II: The Jets hit the ice for practice on Wednesday and we learned that while Dustin Byfuglien has shed the non-contact for a normal uniform he is not quite ready to return to action. Today they play the second last regular season home game as they welcome the Islanders to town. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 am so be sure to check back for the pre-game report with the latest news and audio.
Note III: The Moose played last night in Texas and lost 3-2 to a Stars team they were battling for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Central as their three game win streak came to an end. With Milwaukee also playing and winning last night it was the Admirals who slip into that coveted spot with 73 points as they have the same number of points as the Stars but have played one less game. Manitoba remains one point back in a tie with Rockford who lost to the Admirals last night. Manitoba concludes the road trip with a pair of games against the last place Rampage in San Antonio starting on Friday.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets defenceman Dmitry Kulikov earns Masterton nomination. There has been a lot of adversity surrounding the veteran D man.
Winnipeg Sun: Byfuglien on road to recovery as Jets defenceman inches closer to return. While the Jets are still in a race to lockdown top spot in the Central there is no value to rushing 33 back to the ice and risk a setback.
Winnipeg Sun: Search for consistency continues as Isles visit. Ken’s big matchup is Kevin Hayes vs Brock Nelson. His five keys to the game include: 1) C is for consistency. 2) D is for discipline. 3) Beware of the top line. 4) What’s next for Laine? 5) Solid progression.
Winnipeg Free Press: Buff not quite cleared for takeoff. (Paywall). Sounds it could be as soon as Saturday but considering he just shed the non-contact jersey it may be smart to give him some practice time at full contact before inserting him back into the lineup.
Winnipeg Free Press: Numbers favour Jets if playoffs bring rematch with Predators. (Paywall). Before it seemed like a forgone conclusion these two teams would meet in the playoffs, now I am not so sure. But if they do Andrew says the numbers would be favourable to Winnipeg.
