Note: The Jets took Sunday off after winning the last two games of their three-game homestand including Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the Flames. Today they kick off three games on the road with a contest against the Kings who sit in last place in the Western Conference. Morning skate gets underway at 1 PM CDT so be sure to check out the pre-game report for the latest news and audio. Puck drop is at 9:30 PM.
Note II: The Moose suffered just their second regulation loss in the last 19 games at Bell MTS Place when they dropped yesterday’s afternoon contest against the Gulls by a score of 4-1. Almost more interesting than the game were the 3rd period shenanigans between Ryan White and Jake Dotchin which you almost had to see to really believe. Manitoba will practice today as they try to get back on the right track so they can end this six-game homestand tomorrow night on the right skate.
Winnipeg Sun: Five keys to Jets vs Kings. Paul’s big matchup is Shutting down the one-line Kings. His five keys include: 1) No letdown. 2) Stick with the plan. 3) Special teams. 4) Road role reversal. 5) Redemption.
Winnipeg Free Press: Better defensive play paying off, key to remaining regular season games. (Paywall). There is no question that a collective team effort is gonna be necessary as this team awaits the return of Byfuglien and Morrissey. And you’d have to think the coaching staff will be happy to get buy in to that style even after their return.
The Hockey News: Behind the scenes with the Winnipeg Jets. (Paywall). Ken Campbell joined the Jets in Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo and the trek featured everything from Wheeler’s legendary intensity and Maurice’s famed one-liners to artery-clogging press-box treats and a karma-conscious Uber driver.
Illegal Curve: Moose fall for just 2nd time in regulation in last 19 at home as Gulls win 4-1. A recap of the action including lineup, gameplay, injury news (Poolman), post-game audio, standings and what’s next.
Winnipeg Free Press: It’s all water under the bridge. (Paywall). There’s no hard feelings about Vesalainen’s return to the Moose.
Winnipeg Sun: Vesalainen back on the farm, with no regrets. It was clear that the Jets 2017 1st round selection was happy to be back and playing.
I also appear on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show every Saturday on TSN 1290 Winnipeg starting at 9 am.
And I occasionally jump in the play-by-play booth at Bell MTS Place to provide colour analysis during Manitoba Moose games.
