Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers (Sunday, Mar 11th)

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Not dwelling on the defeats.  Just as the Jets couldn’t afford to get high on all the home wins, they similarly cannot afford to get too low on the road losses.  They have an opportunity to get back on track with their next 3 games at home (2 against Southeast division opponents) before they have to re-focus on becoming road warriors.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets get Thorburned.  What is the GST line without the integral T?  We are about to find out as the ever popular Chris Thorburn will be out of commission for the next few weeks.  A big loss for the Jets as they enter the final stretch.  Coach Noel see’s it as an opportunity for someone to step up and try and fill the roll Chris has played.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets about to find out where they stand.  The good news is that the Jets have some time off at a critical point in the season to heal some wounds that accumulate during the course of the long and grinding NHL season.  The bad news is that the teams with games in hand, will finally catch up to the Jets and by March 15th we will truly know where this Jets team stands.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Special teams not so special.  The PP is in the top 10, but the PK is a woeful 23rd overall in the league.

Winnipeg Sun:  News and Notes.  Jets have four-day break after woeful road trip.  Scoreboard watching.  Bogosian on the mend.

Puck Daddy:  No one wants to win the Southeast Division.  Similar to the race for the Wild card in baseball, the race to see who wants to win the Southeast might come down to the last 3 games.  Check it out for the teams still in contention:

Winnipeg Free Press:  West End theatre to feature Jets games for low-income fans.  Fans come from all backgrounds and this local business owner is trying to provide for those who are unable to pay for the service themselves but would still like the opportunity to cheer on their hometown team.

TSN:  King scores in regulation, shootout as IceCaps top Bears.  If fans aren’t paying attention to what the St. John’s IceCaps have been doing this season, they should be.  They have an excellent shot at winning the top seed in the AHL and making a serious Calder Cup run.  The Caps currently sit 2nd overall, 4 points back of 1st place Norfolk with 2 games in hand.
