Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

All the latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  Following last night’s 4-0 win over the Blues the Jets hoped aboard a plane for the one hour and 22 minute flight to Dallas where they will face the Stars tonight.  Almost overshadowing the win was a report from John Shannon of Sportsnet that Vegas retained salary on Derick Brassard to keep him away from Jets.  The Jets won’t skate today and we aren’t expecting any lineup changes aside from potentially in net but we will have to wait to hear from coach Maurice ahead of the game.  Puck drop is at 6 pm.

Note II:  The Moose kick off a pair of weekend games against division rival Chicago today with a 2 pm start.  The Wolves are coming off a 5-2 win over the Griffins.

Note III:  Reminder that today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show has been moved to 12:00 none due to the Olympic hockey game that is being played this morning.  We will have three hours of Jets, Moose and NHL talk on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Potential deals not stressing out JetsNot being sellers this season means that most Jets players don’t have to be too anxious this time of year but there is still potential for a roster player to be sent the other way in any deal the team could make so I’m sure it won’t be completely stress free until after the deadline ends.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets open road trip with 4-0 beatdown of Blues.  (Paywall).  Blake Wheeler hit the 70 point mark for the third consecutive season and also set a personal best with his 53 assist of the season.  Plenty happened last night in St. Louis and Mike recaps the contest.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  Blues pose no threat to Jets.  (Requires Survey to be filled out).  Read about the game from the perspective of someone who covers the Blues.

Illegal Curve:  Vegas retained salary on Derick Brassard to keep him away from Jets John Shannon of Sportsnet reported this last night and it almost overshadowed the Jets game which was in the 3rd period.

Sportsnet:  Jets 2018 Trade Deadline needs.  Lots of moves already starting to unfold around the NHL and it will be interesting to see if that pushes the Jets into something or whether they hold back having lost out on the assets they may have most wanted.

Jets video:

TSN:  After missing out on Brassard, will Jets target someone else?  TSN Hockey analyst Dave Poulin explains how the Jets’ big boys led the way in their win over the Blues, and discusses whether Winnipeg will target someone else on the trade market after missing out on Derick Brassard.

TSN:  Jets went hard at Brassard, disappointed to miss out.  As Pierre LeBrun explains on That’s Hockey, the Jets went hard at Derick Brassard with a strong offer to the Sens, and are disappointed that they missed out on acquiring one of their top targets.
