Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  Reminder that today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show kicks off at 8 am instead of our usual 9 am time slot.  We will still have three hours of Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose and NHL hockey talk for you on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.  Listen here.

Note II:  The Jets won’t skate this morning with it being a 2 pm puck drop against the Devils.  Coach Maurice confirmed yesterday that the lineup remains the same as he used against the Flyers on Thursday night and that Connor Hellebucyk will be making his third straight start.

Note III:  Manitoba continues to roll picking up their second straight victory last night thanks to a four point night from top prospect Jack Roslovic.  The Moose are scheduled to hit the ice for a 12 pm practice at Bell MTS IcePlex as they get ready for tomorrow’s afternoon game against Laval (Habs farm team).  This will be the first time they play in Manitoba although their previous incarnation is one Moose fans will be familiar with….the St. John’s IceCaps although not really the same franchise (obviously) since they were originally the Hamilton Bulldogs.  Weird but true.  Puck drop is at 2 pm on Sunday and I will be joining voice of the Moose Mitch Peacock in the booth to provide some colour commentary.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Five Keys to Jets vs. Devils.  Paul’s big matchup features both netminders. His keys to the game: 1) Shutdown line. 2) Continued balane. 3) Little progess. 4) Keeping an eye on the local kid. 5) More dirty work.

Winnipeg Sun:  Standings?  What standings?  While the team may not post the standings you can bet most players are aware of where the Jets are in the standings and also of the upcoming U.S. Thanksgiving date.

Winnipeg Sun:  High-flying Jets in “new territory” for even the longest-serving vets.  The message really is about complacency and trying to stave it off.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Teammates appreciate Tanev’s efforts on PK.  (Paywall).  A team isn’t made up of one or two guys and for every superstar like Wheeler/Scheifele you are going to have players who fill other roles.  While they don’t necessarily contribute on the score sheet as their high flying teammates that doesn’t mean they are any less appreciated by those teammates, as Mike writes about.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Ugly win against Flyers proves Jets turning a corner.  (Paywall).  Sometimes they aren’t all works of art.  But winning games that last season you would have lost and adding points to the standings bank is critical early in the season.

Sportsnet:  Patrik Laine has uncanny ability to score using same shootout move.  Pretty crazy that it has worked every single time.

Illegal Curve:  Four point night for Jack Roslovic leads Moose to 6-4 win over Wolves.  The Jets top prospect put on a show and despite the four goals given up Eric Comrie played well in net as the Moose continue to roll.
