Note:  The Jets pulled off an improbable 7-1 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins last night, which saw them put up five in the 1st period including a Blake Wheeler hat trick.  The team is scheduled to practice in Winnipeg at 12 noon at Bell MTS Place before leaving for Minnesota.  Update:  Here is the latest from the Jets practice prior to departing for Minnesota.  Click here.

Note II:  The Moose are back on the ice after a Sunday day off.  They played two games this weekend against the Senators, dropping one in a shootout and another in overtime.  The team is scheduled to practice at 10 AM at the IcePlex before they depart on Tuesday for a six-game California road trip.

Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg:  How Connor Hellebuyck re-wired his brain to get better in goal.  (Paywall).  Suspect a number of young goalies who are hoping to take their game to the next level may be looking out west after they see the success the Jets young netminder is having so far this season.

Winnipeg Sun:  Wheeler paces Jets’ attack in romp over PenguinsHis last hat trick was nine years ago as a rookie with the Bruins but the Jets captain got his first with this organization and it couldn’t have come at a better time for this team.  Ken recaps the contest.

Winnipeg Sun:  Power play challenges revolve around speedWhile they went one for three in their power play opportunities against the defending champs the speed remains key for the Jets to improve their success.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Flurry of five goals in first propels Jets to 7-1 rout of Pittsburgh.  (Paywall).  Anyone who expected the Jets to score five goals on their first ten shots and chase Thunder Bay native Matt Murray from the net is kidding themselves.  But that is just what we saw happen and Jason brings you his recap.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Lowry, Perreault would come in handy.  (Paywall).  No doubt the addition of these two veteran forwards would benefit the team although as they continue to accumulate points during their absence, it ensures that they aren’t prematurely rushed back into the lineup.
