Note II:   Kick off your Saturday with us on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg starting at 9 am.  Three hours of Winnipeg Jets and NHL hockey talk.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets goalie Mason embraces pressure.  There are plenty of high expectations and the puck hasn’t even dropped on this season.  The Jets veteran goalie isn’t shying away from the spotlight.

Winnipeg Sun:  Trouba just wants to play.  It will be an interesting juggling act for coach Maurice with his D when they are all healthy but that is probably a good problem to have for the bench boss.  Suspect Trouba may see new highs in terms of his time on ice this season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Scheifele looks to dethrone NHL’s elite.  Is there anything more Canadian than having to qualify your statement about wanting to be the best?  Cannot see why he would need to clarify his comment about being the best.  He didn’t say he was, he said he wanted to be.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Confidence crisis in Columbus had Steve Mason thinking about calling it quits.  (Paywall).  It was a really forthcoming chat with the Jets newest goalie.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Trouba not troubled by distractions.  (Paywall).  Not a surprise that the tight lipped Trouba didn’t say anything further about his contract situation.  The guys also wrote about the health of the Jets squad as well as Shane Hnidy’s replacement on TSN.

The Athletic:  One-on-one with Jets coach Paul Maurice.  (Paywall).  Always nice to hear from Eric Duhatschek who chatted with the Jets coach about expectations, goaltending and Patrik Laine’s shot.

Sportingnews:  Patrik Laine spent summer bulking up for Jets.  He certainly didn’t seem to be impacted on the ice and if this means he has a harder shot next season there are gonna be some goalies who will need thicker pads.

Official NHL site:  Only reaching playoffs will make Laine happy.  Laine doesn’t want to focus on the individual achievements which isn’t too surprising from a young player.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Longest looks in preseason the likely tell for regular season play.  Tim Campbell of NHL.com joined the Afternoon Ride to preview the Winnipeg Jets training camp and preseason. Campbell discusses young players like Kyle Connor and Brendan Lemieux, and explains why he expects the Jets coaching staff to take the full preseason to decide the regular season roster.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Important for Mason to bond with Hellebuyck.  Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun joined the Afternoon Ride to review day one of the Winnipeg Jets training camp. Wiebe also shares his thoughts on Bryan Little’s contract extension, and the young players who hope to make the regular season roster.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  There’s a different mood at training camp.  Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice sat down with The Big Show to discuss the start of Winnipeg Jets training camp.
