Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets news.

Note:  That was a wild Wednesday.  While 99% of folks thought Marko Dano would be on the Vegas roster today, instead it is longtime Thrashers/Jets veteran Chris Thorburn who was taken by the Golden Knights.  It is the end of an era for the final member of the GST line after ten years with the Atlanta/Winnipeg organization.  In addition to that selection the teams swapped first round picks with the Jets giving up their 13th for the Golden Knights 24th (via Columbus) and Winnipeg also gave up a 3rd rounder in 2019.

Note II:  The trade freeze for the remaining 30 NHL teams ends at 7 am CT.  Additionally the NHL will be releasing the full schedule at 2 pm CT after revealing the home openers (Jets play Leafs to start season) yesterday.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Laine loses out in Calder voting.  Had he not suffered that mid season concussion you have to wonder how his season would have finished.  The Jets rookie did finish on the NHL All-Rookie team.

Winnipeg Sun:  Enstrom saved, Jets lose Thorburn to Golden Knights.  Ken looks at what the ramifications of last night were to the Jets and what the team is still looking to do in the near future.

Winnipeg Sun:  Looking at the draft needs of all the Canadian NHL teams.  Lots of folks scrambling to change their #13 predictions to whom they have at #24.

Winnipeg Free Press:  As expected, from the Jets the Golden Knights pick… Chris Thorburn!?!.  (Paywall).  That headline does sum up the shock that I would have to think most people not on the inside of the Jets war room were feeling when the name was announced.

Illegal Curve:  Jets lose Chris Thorburn in NHL Expansion Draft (also make trade).  While many other Vegas selections were leaking out all day long this was a well kept secret that caught everyone by surprise.
