Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets are on the road again for the third last road trip of the season.  Tonight they play in Nashville as they look to offset a disappointing home stand.  Morning skate happens at 11:30 am where all eyes will be on whether Jacob Trouba takes the morning skate (or if he doesn’t what coach Maurice will have to say about it).  Puck drop is at 7 pm.  As always keep it locked to illegalcurve.com for pre and post game news and be sure to follow us on social media including Twitter | Facebook | Instagram.

Note II:  Fans had a lot of fun at yesterday’s retro game but the team did not as they dropped their fourth straight game on Sunday in a 5-4 loss to the Marlies.  The team will hit the ice for a practice at 12 noon at the MTS Centre as they get ready to face the Marlies in a re-match on Tuesday night.

Jets news:

Toronto Sun:  Calder Trophy debate – Will East Coast bias hurt or help Auston Matthews?  And this was written before Patrik Laine added his 33rd goal of the season and continued to build his rookie points lead over the field.  This story however is primarily about the view of Matthews but still touches on Laine.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to Jets vs. Predators.  Ted’s list includes: 1) All about special teams. 2) Central intelligence. 3) Patrik’s points. 4) Defender’s down. 5) Shut down.  And Ted’s big matchup is Connor Hellebuyck vs. Pekka Rinne.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets trying to shore up special teams.  The penalty kill has killed them as this team just sits 27th in the NHL while the power play hasn’t led to much advantage with the team sitting 23rd overall.

Winnipeg Sun:  What reason do fans have to believe Jets will be better under Maurice next year?  Fans have lots of questions as to whether the current bench boss is the right person for the job.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets refuse to wave white flag despite setbacks.  (Paywall).  When I read that headline I cannot help but think of Mickey from Rocky yelling “its over Rock”.  While the team is going to try and put a good foot (or skate) forward it has to be tough knowing the reality of their situation.

Jets audio:

Illegal Curve:  Practice Report.  Hear from Bryan Little, Patrik Laine, Ben Chiarot and coach Maurice.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  Moose now winless in five after 5-4 loss to Marlies in retro game.  After they went on a 4-0-1 run the team has followed that up with an 0-4-1 record.  They are in the midst of a home stand that hasn’t proven that home is where the heart is.  They still have five games left at MTS Centre during this stretch in the 204.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Retro game a blast from the past.  (Paywall).  Mike provides you with his recap of the Sunday contest that saw the home team lose the game although despite this, the fans still managed to enjoy themselves.
