Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets faced the Western Conference champs from last season on Monday and it doesn’t get any easier tonight with defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins in town.  As always keep it locked to illegalcurve.com for pre and post game news and be sure to follow us on social media including Twitter | Facebook | Instagram.

Note II:  The Moose are back on the ice after cancelling yesterday’s on ice practice.  Today they will hit the ice at 11 AM at the IcePlex as they get ready for a game against the Charlotte Checkers tomorrow night at the MTS Centre.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Laine faces music after tough loss.  (Paywall).  One thing about the rookie.  He certainly doesn’t shy away from taking responsibility when he makes an error nor does he dodge the media when the questions are forthcoming.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to Jets vs. Penguins.  Paul’s five keys include: 1) Just play. 2) The patient approach. 3) The stopper. 4) The Oldest Cliche in the Book. 5) The bottom six.  And the big matchup for Paul are the Jets forwards vs. the Penguins defence.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets face Penguins with more than revenge on Malkin in mind.  If the players were thinking revenge they weren’t admitting it (not surprisingly) in advance of the game.

Winnipeg Sun:  Laine’s blunder could hurt Calder chances.  He has certainly had a few miscues this season but I suspect each and every rookie has made an error or three that has hurt their team.  My guess is Calder voters are more concerned with the points they put up then the overall game but if its close then these errors could possibly be the difference.

Pittsburgh Tribune:  With Jets matchup looming, Penguins stick to ‘just play’ philosophy.  Read about the Pittsburgh mentality heading into the game.

TSN:  Jets 3-in-3.  (Video).  How will the Jets address their goaltending situation in the offseason? Which players could be left exposed in June’s expansion draft? Has Paul Maurice earned a contract extension? Sara Orlesky and Gary Lawless weigh in.

The Hockey News:  Morrissey’s growth promising for Jets, and he doesn’t plan on slowing downRemember when folks talked about him being a bust because he wasn’t in the NHL immediately?  Sometimes it pays to have a little patience.

Illegal Curve:  Jets Practice Report A look at who hit the ice for yesterday’s skate at the IcePlex as well as audio from Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine, Jacob Trouba, Connor Hellebuyck and coach Maurice.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Interview with Kyle Connor & Jack Roslovic.  Hustler had the two Jets prospects and current Moose forwards on for a 34 minute chat about a number of topics both on and off the ice.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Laine gets the edge as more complete playerDawson Sprigings of Hockey Graphs and DTMAboutHeart joins Hustler & Lawless to look at the challenge in comparing two players in different positions, and explains why Patrik Laine is a slightly more complete player because of the team and systems he plays in.
