Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  Ready to start your day nice and early?  The Illegal Curve Hockey Show will kick things off at the unnatural time of 6 am for three hours of Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose and NHL hockey talk on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.  We will also speak with Jacob Micflikier (Spengler Cup champion), Jeff Hamilton (Winnipeg Free Press) and Mike Harrington (Buffalo News).

Note II:  The reason for our early start time on air is that the Jets and Sabres game kicks off at 12 pm as Winnipeg looks to sweep their three game road trip which would also mean finally winning three games in a row for the first time this season. As always be sure to keep it locked to illegalcurve.com for pre and post game news and on social media including via Twitter | Facebook | Instagram.

Note III:  About seven hours after the Jets game starts the Manitoba Moose will be taking to the ice at home as central division rival Iowa is in town for a pair of games.  Puck drops at 7 pm.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets looking for next level.  As they continue to progress towards a fully healthy squad we are really going to see what this team has as they continue their push during the second half of the season.

Winnipeg Sun: Byfuglien asked to play with Morrissey.  I watched Morrissey play quite a bit with the Moose in the AHL last season and you could see that he was getting better throughout the year so I wasn’t surprised that he has been able to make the jump to the NHL although I didn’t anticipate he would be doing it on the top pairing.  It was interesting to learn that big #33 asked to play with the rookie.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to Jets vs. Sabres.  Ken’s keys include: 1) No letdowns. 2) Win the goaltending battle. 3) Kid line keeps rolling. 4) Eastern fortunes turning. 5) Is Kane able?  Ken’s big matchup is Nikolaj Ehlers vs Zach Bogosian.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Morrissey becomes valuable blue-line asset.  (Paywall).  Jeff will be joining us at 8 am to talk about the Jets so we will be sure to discuss the emergence of the rookie defenceman.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets plan to push throttle in second half.  (Paywall).  Next level or consistency as this team has been a bit Jekyll and Hyde so far this season.

Buffalo News:  Sabres find success on power play, frustration on penalty kill.  Sounds like a familiar problem.

ESPN:  Trade season preview.  (Paywall).  Craig Custance takes a look around the Western Conference including at the Jets.

Illegal Curve:  Jets Practice Report.  A look at the skate that took place yesterday in Buffalo and audio from Blake Wheeler, Nic Petan and coach Maurice.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  US National junior team member and Winnipeg Jets prospect Jack Roslovic joins the guys to recount winning gold at the World Juniors, and how his professional experience helped him at the tournament.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Dennis Beyak joins the guys to discuss the Winnipeg Jets’ play in Tampa and South Florida, and explores what the Jets should do at goaltender going into the second half of their season.
