Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets certainly didn’t end 2016 the way they wanted to suffering a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the New York Islanders.  They will travel today as they get ready for a three game road trip which starts on Tuesday in Florida against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Note II:  The Moose will start 2017 with a New Years Day afternoon contest as they finish off their weekend series against the Charlotte Checkers.  Today is the Eric Comrie mini-bobblehead giveaway to the first 3000 fans.  Puck drops at 2 pm.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Poor goaltending sinks Jets again.  It seems to be the never-ending story around here as the Jets lack of consistency between the pipes continues to hamper their ability to get wins.  Although yesterday as a collective team the effort just wasn’t where it needed to be in the loss to the Islanders.  Ken breaks it all down in this column.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets cap 2016 with 6-2 loss to Islanders.  (Paywall).  The biggest cheer of the night went to former captain Andrew Ladd who added insult to injury when he scored the sixth goal of the game for the Islanders.  He actually was quite appreciative of the response he got from the fans inside the MTS Centre last night (listen here).

TSN:  Tavares, Strome help Islanders beat Jets.  The Islanders got contributions from their entire team as they continued Winnipeg’s struggles against the Eastern Conference (5-10-2, including 2-7-1 against the Metropolitan Division).

Newsday:  Islanders close out 2016 with easy win over Winnipeg.  They certainly didn’t lack for scoring in the New Years Eve contest.  Read about the game from team beat writer Arthur Staple.

Illegal Curve:  Marko Dano expected to miss six to nine weeks.  The news coach Maurice had hinted was coming finally arrived about the young Jets forward.
