Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  Kick off your day with the IC Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg beginning at 9 am for three hours of Winnipeg Jets and NHL hockey talk.  Joining us on the show will be Paul Edmonds (covers Jets), George Johnson (covers Flames), Tom Lynn (player agent) and Pat Hickey (covers Canadiens).

Note II:  Next on your agenda may be the Manitoba Moose game as they will have a re-match against the Monsters this afternoon with puck drop at 2 pm.  Today is the Teddy Bear Toss game (you can watch a video of the one they held last season here) although after the 5-1 drubbing Cleveland laid down last night the Moose may not be feeling particularly warm and fuzzy.

Note III:  Last on the agenda will be the Winnipeg Jets taking on the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome with a 9 pm puck drop.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Alarming times for Jets & Maurice.  At what point do folks have to accept this is the team.  It feels like someone  lost in the woods who keeps thinking just around this bend in the path they will magically find their way home.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five keys to Jets vs. Flames.  Includes: 1) Becoming road warriors.  2) Fanning the Flames.  3) 3) Byfuglien heating up 4) Here’s Johnny.  5) Johnson standing tall.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Battered, bushed Jets battling, believing.  But not broken (at least so our injury reports tell us) so perhaps after treading water this team is ready for take off.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Flames are the enemy now for Calgary’s Josh Morrissey.  (Paywall).  Easy to forget that just a few year ago some of these players were in the same seats as the fans, cheering on their local team.  Josh Morrissey was no different until he heard his name called in 2013 by Winnipeg.

TSN:  Top 10 NHL storylines of the week.  Another look at the Laine vs. Matthews debate but this time from a more statistical perspective.

Illegal Curve:  Jets coach Paul Maurice shootout philosophy.  The Jets bench boss was recently asked about his shootout philosophy so I took a look at what he has done this year and last year as well.

Illegal Curve:  Evaluating games 21-30.  Cannot believe the Jets have already hit this thresh hold of games.  A comparison to the previous two 10 game segments looking at goals, goalies, special teams and injuries.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Warmup.  Andrew “Hustler” Paterson discusses the Jets ongoing issues with taking penalties and poor special teams.

Illegal Curve:  Jets Practice Report.  The team didn’t hit the ice before boarding a plane west to Alberta but they did chat.  Hear from Josh Morrissey, Adam Lowry, Manthieu Perreault and coach Maurice.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  Moose Hide Their A-Game, Lose 5-1 to Monsters.  Peter recap the action for you from last night’s Manitoba game.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Moose discover Monsters’ power play is scary-good.  (Paywall).  Either that wasn’t the same Monsters team we saw last time they were in-town or it was a different Moose squad.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Connor sent down, aims to get back up.  (Paywall),  The now 20 year old Connor who celebrated that milestone last night with the Moose as opposed to the Jets was forthright and candid in this chat.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Mike’s Notebook.  (Paywall).  Roslovic headed to World Juniors; DeSalvo earns his keep; Peluso feeling charitable and more.
