Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets have the day off following a central division sweep in St. Louis and Chicago over the weekend.  They will have today to recover before they hit the MTS Centre tomorrow morning to get ready to face the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night here in Winnipeg.

Note II:  The Moose split their weekend series with the Stars and have won four of their last five games.  They will hit the ice at the IcePlex for a practice today as they get ready for a weekend series with the Cleveland Monsters.

Jets news:

Sportsnet:  Hockey Central at Noon.  (Audio).  Paul Maurice spoke for almost 13 minutes on Patrik Laine’s ability to score from pretty much anywhere has the veterans on his club doing what they can to feed the Finnish rookie the puck, & that the patience the forward has recently added to his game makes him more dangerous.

TSN:  Statistically Speaking – Laine a premier shooterIn case you were unaware, Laine is good.  Really good.

Ilta Sanomat:  Patrik Laine and Sidney Crosby are like night and day .  Now I’ve run this through google translate (which, with Finnish to English, is a little rough still) but you can get the gist of the article and view the shot charts regardless of any language barriers.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets grind out another huge win. This was a Jets team that needed to come home with a clean four points and that is just what they did.  Interesting to hear talk that the veterans spoke about the need for urgency to this youngish lineup.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Hellebuyck bounces back big-time.  (Paywall).  I liked his response to Jeff’s question in the scrum yesterday when he was asked whether there was a “need” for him to bounce back.  Another sign of maturity in the still young goalie.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets hold on for 2-1 win over Hawks, complete sweep over Central Division’s best.  (Paywall).  It was a gutsy, grinding sort of win that showed some good character by Winnipeg.

CSN Chicago:  Five Things from Blackhawks-Jets: Offense still anemic.  Includes: 1) Jonathan Toews isn’t improving. 2) Scott Darling did all he could. 3) Little generated again. 4) Second line drawing all the attention? and 5) Power plays a problem again.

Chicago Sun-Times:  Without Jonathan Toews again, Blackhawks lose to Jets.  Always interesting to read the perspective of a beat writer that covers the Jets opponent.

TSN: Resilient Jets getting it done on the road.  (Video).  The Jets had been struggling on the road but back-to-back performances in St. Louis and Chicago saw them pick up four big points. TH2N breaks down how they have managed to play so well.

Sportsnet:  Hometown Hockey.  (Video)  Mark Scheifele credits a lot of his success to Colt’s head coach and former Jet, Dale Hawerchuk.

Illegal Curve:  Mark Scheifele injury update.  The Jets have now gone two games without their top centre and coach Maurice provided an update prior to the start of the game against Chicago.

Jets 2 Hawks 1:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game recap.  Includes a quick recap, stats and post-game audio from Bryan Little, Connor Hellebuyck, Mathieu Perreault and coach Maurice.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  Moose didn’t need to wish upon a star in 5-4 win over Texas.  They earned a weekend split with the Stars in a 5-4 win yesterday.  Post includes starting lines, a recap, coach Vincent audio, notable numbers and some pictures from the entire team signing autographs.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Moose get some payback.  (Paywall).  Mike provides his breakdown of yesterday afternoon’s contest at the MTS Centre.
