Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note: The Jets finished off the three game home stand last night with a 6-3 loss to the Oilers.  They will meet the media this morning before heading out on the road where they will have a tough back-to-back against central division opponent St. Louis (Saturday) and Chicago (Sunday).

Note II:  The Moose had the day off yesterday following a successful road trip where they went a perfect 3-0.  They will now prepare for back-to-back matinees at the MTS Centre against the Texas Stars.  Tomorrow’s game will be the Star Wars game and there will be plenty of fun for fans at the game.  I’m told the upper deck will be open as they have already sold 10,000 tickets.

Update:  Prior to leaving Manitoba the Jets spoke following a skate at MTS Centre.  Hear from Dustin Byfuglien, Patrik Laine, Mark Scheifele and coach Maurice.  To listen click here.

Jets news:

TSN:  Laine’s flying start has wowed veteran teammates.  Pierre Lebrun caught up with the Jets captain to talk about some of the kids and we learn another nickname for Patrik Laine or as he is known back home “Pastyuk.”  Patrik Laine’s confidence good sign for JetsHe continues to show Jets fans the kind of sizzle and it bears mentioning that he is only 18.  Tip of the iceberg really for what lies ahead.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets can’t keep up with Oilers.  Not even the strength of two Patrik Laine howitzers was sufficient to keep the Jets in this contest as the Oilers special teams overwhelmed Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun:  Moose calling Jets’ Kyle Connor.  No question about it.  He could be playing big minutes with the AHL club and gaining that confidence and chemistry with fellow 2015 1st rounder Jack Roslovic.  When something like 80+ percent of NHLers have spent time in the AHL it really isn’t a negative and can, long term, be vastly more beneficial to his success in the NHL.

Winnipeg Free Press:  McDavid fuels Oilers in win over Jets.  (Paywall).  He really is one of those generational players that is pretty much worth the price of admission each and every shift he is on the ice.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Goaltending fuel for Jets’ flagging confidence.  (Paywall).  In Scott’s defence this article was written before last night’s game, not that Hellebuyck should shoulder the blame solely for the defeat at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton Journal:  Oilers rediscover offence in 6-3 win over Jets.  Always good to read the game breakdown of someone who covers the visiting team.

TSN:  Scheifele, Laine a potent dynamic duo.  (Video).  They’ve become one of the most potent threats in the NHL. Craig Button explains why Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine compliment each other so well.

Sportsnet: Hey Winnipeg Jets, it’s about time you take the next stepStrong words but around Manitoba there are plenty of fans who are ready to see this organization proceed past the “maybe they can make the playoffs” stage.

Oilers 6 Jets 3:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game recap.  It wasn’t a good night in Jetsville yesterday as the team laid a bit of a penalty kill egg against Edmonton.  Plenty of audio in here including: Mathieu Perreault, Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Connor McDavid,  Leon Draisaitl and coaches Maurice and McLellan.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Sami Hoffren of Urheilusanomat joins the guys to discuss Patrik Laine’s season and the reaction in his native Finland to the 18-year-old’s meteoric rise in the NHL.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun joins the guys to review a very busy schedule for the Winnipeg Jets, including a winless 5-game road trip.
