Note: The Jets are back in action following a Saturday travel day as they came home with two points in the standings bank from Colorado. They will face former Jet Zach Bogosian (Evander Kane is still out of the lineup) and the Buffalo Sabres in an afternoon contest at the MTS Centre.
Note II: The Moose have cancelled today’a practice after sweeping their weekend series with the San Diego Gulls
Jets news:
Illegal Curve: Saturday Headlines – Jacob Trouba and the Bruins. For the third week in a row the Jets RFA defenceman made the headlines as they discussed whether Boston may be a good landing spot with the rumour that Ryan Spooner may be out of favour.
Winnipeg Free Press: Armia could be sleeper in lopsided deal. (Paywall). We had Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News on the show yesterday who spoke about the deal from the Buffalo perspective saying he didn’t like deal from the Sabres point of view (starts at 10:08 mark). While Armia is a nice piece I think Brendan Lemieux or Jack Roslovic, who are both with the Moose in the AHL, could end up being the real steals of the deal.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Lowry embraces enhanced role. Coach Maurice was already a big fan of #17 and that has only increased this season.
The Hockey News: Ovechkin says Jets’ rookie Laine can score ’50 or 60 goals’. I asked Capitals play by play voice Joe Beninati what he thought about Laine and his response was “brings me back 12 years ago. The speed with which he attacks the net. The shot that he takes. It reminds me of #8”. (Interview with Joe starts at 25 minute mark and my question about Ovechkin/Laine is at 28:18).
TSN: Teams inquiring about Pavelec. This seems to be, along with Trouba, the never ending saga around these parts. While he is with the Moose and could fit within that area of news it appears the teams inquiring are doing so for their NHL squads.
Moose news:
Illegal Curve: Moose sweep weekend series with 5-4 win over Gulls. Includes scoring summary, player analysis and post-game audio (Peter Stoykewych, Scott Glennie and Coach Vincent).
Winnipeg Free Press: Moose win with fired up Scott Glennie in lineup. (Paywall). After being out of hockey as long as he had you got the sense that the Winnipegger was really happy to have earned his place back in the lineup.
