Jets news:
ESPN: The NHL’s must-watch teams. (Paywall). Craig was sold on the Jets after last night’s third period.
Winnipeg Sun: Rookie Patrik Laine doesn’t disappoint. In his pre-game chat he spoke about the importance of the team winning. Well the team got the two points and so did he. Fans left the rink with the distinct impression that they have a very special player in Laine.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets rally from three-goal deficit. How many people picked the Jets as being able to come back from being down three goals in the 3rd period? Guess fans wanted to hear the new goal song ‘Jump’ five times last night.
Winnipeg Sun: Big worry about Little? It certainly didn’t look good when the veteran centre got tangled up and then was in considerable pain getting to the Jets bench. He hobbled off on his own but it didn’t look good at all for him.
Winnipeg Free Press: Fantastic first impression. (Paywall). The Jets as a collective group (veterans and rookies alike) looked like newborn deer trying to get purchase on some wobbly legs. But eventually (by the 3rd period) they started to look they have finally gotten some strength as a collective unit. No question Laine and Connor showed fans what they are capable of as well a player like Nikolaj Ehlers made some remember that kid the team drafted in the 1st round back in 2014.
Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba gets off-ice reality check. (Paywall). One game does not a season make (or something like that) and it may be a tad premature to declare it time for Trouba’s camp to start panicking.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets down Hurricanes in overtime. (Paywall). A complete recap of last night’s Game 1 win.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets have holes to fill before they dig themselves a big one. (Paywall). As I’ve written previously this first month of the season will be critical for this young Jets team.
News and Observer: Canes blow lead in third period, fall to Jets 5-4 in OT. A read about the game from a Hurricanes beat writer.
Illegal Curve: Jets honour Len (Kroppy) Kropioski in pre-game ceremony. The Jets gave a final send off to the longtime veteran and Jets superfan.
TSN: TSN Hockey. (Video). Patrik Laine and Auston Matthews were the two best players available in last year’s draft, and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button explains how the Jets’ rookie can continue to impress.
Jets 5 Hurricanes 4 in OT:
Illegal Curve: Coach Paul Maurice post-game press conference. The Jets bench boss talks about tonight’s 5-4 OT win over the Hurricanes.
