Winnipeg Free Press:  Buff scratch a head-scratcher.  (Paywall).  When it was announced that Byfuglien would sit in advance of yesterday’s game I said if Team USA lost there would be plenty of questions about the decision by Coach Tortorella.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Phillips razor-sharp in debut; De Leo a savvy veteran.   (Paywall).  In our interview with Paul Edmonds yesterday he certainly sounded quite impressed by the play of the netminder in game one of the YoungStars tournament.  De Leo is always an interesting interview.  Yesterday we learned that the Californian put on 10 lbs of muscle over the summer and according to him he hasn’t lost any of his speed.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Defensive duos struggle during Game 1.  (Paywall).  No point in getting too worked up over one game.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ken’s Notebook from Penticton.  Plenty in this article from Ken including: Green focusing on his strengths … Denham happy with decision … Spacek moving to centre … Berdin to play finale.

Brandon Denham

TSN:  ”Very surprised” by Byfuglien scratch.  (Video).  Following the 3-0 loss that Team USA suffered at the hands of Team Europe hockey insider Darren Dreger addresses the move by coach Tortorella to scratch big #33.
